Its time to fill the ODD bracket with an SSD. I read Crucial and Intel are the way to go, problem is here in Bulgaria we got only 300 series Intel (cost like hell) and no Crucial SSD's to speak of.

I know OCZ will get me into trouble, so I'm thinking about Kingston SSD's. How about this one >>LINK<< Is it gonna work flawlessly? Opinions please?

Bear in mind, I've checked everywhere - cant find Crucial or Patriot SSD's over here in Bulgaria. And the old Intel 300 series are not worth buying.

Another option would be a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB....what do you think?

Installing an SSD is the way to go if your budget allows.

Clevo and Sager does recommend the Intel branded ones. These are the ones that have been tested with all of the models.

Of course others may work fine for you. :)

I would definitely just go the pure SSD route. I would recommend researching whatever drives you are interested in ahead of time. Many of the issues you find will be fixable via firmware upgrades or intel driver tweaks. Many of the issues can be resolved by deleting or modifying a few things...

I have a Seagate Momentus XT in my P150HM and its definitely faster than a regular 7200RPM drive. Nowhere as quick as a SSD though. Personally I am going to wait untill SSD are large capacity and excellent pricing. Hopefully there will be no more earthquakes to ruin memory manufacturing plants so prices will continue to decrease.

You don't want to put the SSD in the ODD bay. That bay is SATA II and you want to get SATA III speeds. What you want to do is put the SSD in the hard drive bay as that port is III and then move your current hard drive over to the optical bay drive.

Okay, but what about the Kingston 64GB SSD? Kingston SSDNow V Review (SNV425-S2) | StorageReview.com

Will it work in my Clevo P150HM? Anyone know if there are issues with that particular one?

P.S. I just read the speeds...Im not impressed. Looks like beside the low access time, the speeds are no better than WD Scorpio Black 750GB 7200rpm. Ughhhhhh..........maybe I need to order a Patriot Wildfire from Germany....exactly as I did with my laptop. In Bulgaria, they sell old crap in the stores. Makes me wanna vomit. Gonna start ordering from other countries in the EU, no doubt about it.

I own one of these drives (128GB). It's older and theoretically slower, but my system boots in 18 seconds and feels incredibly snappy.

215 leva for a 64GB drive is an absolute ripoff. That's roughly $2.46 USD per GB. I got mine for $1 per GB (128 GB's)

The speeds are way better than any mechanical HDD. From the review http://www.storagereview.com/kingston_ssdnow_v_review_snv425s2.

Yeah, welcome to my world....Expensive and yet "oldschool" old hardware for sale over here in Bulgaria. I am really gonna order from Germany again. I had nightmares in early 2010 with an A-Data 32GB SSD for 174 leva, BSOD was coming up more often than I was able to boot up, system didn't recognize the SSD when starting up (remove & swap back in like crazy)....good times. But that was back when I had a desktop.

Alright, either I find the Kingston 64GB SSD somewhere cheaper here or I will just order from Germany. Maybe in NEXOC (the clevo reseller I got my current laptop from) can make me a nice deal. Love that P150HM....simply the best PC purchase ever. :)

    Sorry for double posting!

Just yesterday, I bought my SAMSUNG S084F external USb drive + one more 4GB Kingston Dimm for my laptop (same memory as the factory one) and now Im happy with 2x4GB. I completely forgot to ask for SSD's in that shop, and what do I see - they have the same Kingston 64GB SSD with Notebook Bundle stuff for 168 leva! SSD 64GB KINGSTON SSDNow V100 Notebook Bundle SATA2 (SV100S2N/64G) | ????????? ????????, ???????? ????????, ??????????, ??????????

I like that shop, I have bought from them 2 times (including yesterday) and every time I was able to negotiate some 5-6 leva of the prices off which is very rare in Bulgaria.

I think Im gonna go ahead and get me a Kingston 64GB SSD from there and also might pick up a Notebook Sleeve to protect my machine from scratches. Who knows, maybe I can get some discount :)

P.S. Need to edit my signature, I got 2x4GB ram since yesterday evening :)

P.S.S: Maybe a Samsung 470 SSD 128GB would be a better choice....Google has some nice benchmarks to show comparing the two brands. Gonna think about it...128GB for 400leva...

If you are going to run the SSD with another hard drive, I wouldn't worry too much about size. I run a 64GB SSD + 1TB HDD in my desktop and it works relatively well. You'll just have to add symbolic links to your C:/Users folder in Windows to try to keep the amount of stuff on the SSD to a minimum. More space is always better, though obviously it's more expensive, so it's up to you whether it's worth it.

Hi, I don't really want to start a separate thread since my question is fairly close to this topic. I'm looking at getting P150HM soon and I am debating over the 120gb and 250gb intel 510 drives. The price($300+ for 250gb) isn't too critical to me, just performance and convenience of space for games. If anyone with experience with the 250gb drive could chime in on this I would appreciate it.

I've thought the same thing, Newegg often has SSD's going for 1$/1GB or thereabouts as opposed to resellers 5$/1GB ratio (granted they are usually top of the line).

Speed / access times definitely seem to be an issue though.
