Ok, I'm gonna order this notebook real soon now and I just want to know the issues known so far with this particular notebook so I know what I'm dealing with, I don't want any suprises if I spend this kind of money.

    1) HDD heating up
    2) Hibernation, power button thing... (heard of this vaguely, so if someone could explain me this... thanks)

    Any more?

(PS: Might as well ask this here than open another thread for it, I can order it with 3GB RAM or 2GB RAM, I save €50 choosing 2GB over 3GB. Is it worth it or is it kind of useless? Gonna do hardcore gaming and level editing)

hdd heating up seems to be random. putting a western digital in should help as WD's scorpio's run cooler than the other brands.

the power button can be pushed when laptop closed by too much pressure on lid. i think this is issue you're referring to. don't quote me on that.

try to get it without any ram and purchase 4 gigs on your own. you'll save some money and future proof it. if you can find a good deal on one 4 gig stick you could also do that and purchase another 4 gig in the future if you ever upgrade to 8 gigs. but consider if you'll ever think you;ll need 8 gigs.

otherwise if you're getting a clevo you're getting one of the best brands out there. unless you're anal and nit picky you should be very happy with your decision.

    Hi Chimeray
there was a lot of hype about the HD temps. when it first came out but it sounds like it was just a few rogue HDs. the highest ive seen mine go is 61c and that was when i was defraging. during gaming, crysis & COD4 it gets to about 55-56c which is ok. the danger mark is when it touches 65c and above.

ive never had a problem with hibernation as the first thing i done was delete the 2gb file in clean up. i had a major problem with hibernation with my m15x so i thought it better to get rid of it on here just in case after reading a few posts on here.

are you going for 32bit or 64bit vista as we can then tell you what ram to get.

    good luck with your purchase.

totally agree. im running WD and it does seem the one with the lowest temps.

i was also thinking about 8gb ram when i upgraded to 64bit but im sure i read somewhere on here that its not compatable???

some manufacturers claim their mb's only take up to 4 gigs of ram. i've been reading some of these mb's will in fact take up to 6 or even 8gigs when it was stated 4 was max. most persons have no use for 8 gigs of ram though. 4 gigs is plenty for most users including myself.

32 bit os? you should give vista64 a try. i was pleasantly surprised with it. i got my OEM copy for $100 and it came with a free pc tower with fans and cables.

have you thought about dual booting? that's what i did. at first i thought i would bounce back and forth, but i've hardly touched xp after about the first month of vista64 use.

I am pleasently surprised with vista 64. If anything doesn't work in it, its probably nothing that the compatibility mode options can't fix. (trust me, I've gotten everything to work except for one thing, which I dual boot vista 32bit for, but even that boot has no network drivers, because its purpose is just to capture footage)

But otherwise, I think if you want to use the full power of the m860tu, get a 64bit OS.

I went with 32bit vista home premium, the reason for this is that I like to play old games and I've heard sometimes that the 64bit version sometimes can't cope with older stuff.
Then last week I had to use a VPN client for school and guess what... it didn't work on 64bit, it was only for 32bit. So there you have it ;)

So it seems there are no other real issues?
What about the keyboard not being tactile, I've seen that around as well?

Did you try a compatability mode? It might have worked then. On either windows xp or windows 2000.
