that is the same keyboard found on late 2008 Macbook and Macbook Pro's.

Probably Chicony or OKI... the two largest keyboard manufacturers.

Ah well I was referring to your earlier post where you said you didn't know this ODM, so I figured it was an unknown.

Interesting how so many macbook pro parts are ending un in sagers... in the 5797 we've got their screens.. now we're seeing keyboards.

From the prices on Kobalt's website I would guess that in US this beast will be priced at around 2800-4500 USD (correction) depending on the configuration.

Pity, it will be difficult to compete with the ASUS W90.

Wow, that's a lot cheaper than I expected it to be. Kinda wish I would have waited another month before I ordered Mine.

@Blacky When the Asus W90 supports the QX9300 then we can talk about competitive pricing.

First of all I made a mistake in the initial post, a BIG one, the price will be between 2800- 4500 USD depending on configuration. But this is still in preorder, so I would say they will probably be 15% cheaper in the end, let's say 2500-4000 USD.

Not everyone has money to buy a QX9300. The difference is on head on head configurations so according to kobalt's pricing. A M980 with the same configuration as the ASUS W90 - X2 is 3700 USD in comparison to the Asus which is 2450

Thankfully, the ASUS is still plagued by many technical issues. It is after all, the first time they are making something like this, but still the pricing is pretty damn good regardless of what you are saying. I am still wondering how they are doing it.

One thing that pisses me off in the M980 is the 1920x1080 ... why why why ?!?!?!? Why are they moving to this standard and not keeping the 1920x1200. :(

Based on how our other system prices compare to US reseller pricing I would expect it to be more around the $2100 area, can't guarantee that but it's more appealing than $2500 :)

just like the d900f came in at the right price..so will the m98.
youll have the base model and the super duper model with all the bells and whistles.

I really hope the M980NU barebone will be lower or at the same price as D901F barebone ($1759) :)

If my calculation right, the price for adding 1 more GTX 280M card is approx. $415 (compared to $695 for 9800M GTX). So Asus W90 has been very helpful in lowering the price of high-end gaming laptops :D

yes, would love to move to the m98, but if it has no over clocking or we can't unlock the pll..then i will have to pass and stay right where im at now....

Yes, I too would stay where I am if I already have Clevo D901C (like you) ;)

But since I'm still "laptopless", I will buy one of them (D901F or M980NU) even if they don't have OC ability. :D

Well seeing that it is built on an nVidia chipset, which in my experience have Always had overclocking freedom in one way or another, I think we can be optimistic that there will be opportunity for OC.

Sorry if its been covered, but is there a release date for the beast?

we are still hoping and speculating...but from the people who have tested it out so far...they gave no indication of over clocking in the bios or by software like the w90...
(not talking about the gpu's, but the cpu/fsb/memory)

IMHO, Clevo love to play it safe...

AFAIK, Clevo never make a laptop with OC feature.

It is quite possible part of the NDA or pre-retail testers are under an agreement that OC cannot be discussed. Even my little micro-ITX n9400 can overclock.
I doubt we'll find anything out about OCability until an NBR member gets their hands on one.

tis is true mike and i agree as well....that's why im holding out. so far...not any of these new systems are flat out killing my setup now. so waiting isn't really an issue...i just miss over clocking the cpu and fsb i guess...but im slowly getting over it....lol

In the same exact boat as you. That D900F is really looking good though, power wise...

I remember hearing of mini-desktop overclockers taking the X9100 to 4.5GHz on air. If I could get 3.5GHz on a QX9300, it would be enough for me to buy a new system.

    @Neil Kobalt
You said you already use M980NU for day-to-day work? Can you please write a preview?
Perhaps you can write a preview that cover things that not covered yet on notebookcheck.net review. Like whether the gaming keys are programmable and can be used in game, what option available in the BIOS menu, etc.

    Where did I read what?

Notebookcheck.net wrote a review of M980NU sample product.

or about Neil bringing the laptop?

Someone ask (i forgot which thread) about M980NU weight. Neil answered that he has been bringing M980NU from and to work for a week and doesn't have problem with the weight.

about Neil bringing too and from work. sorry about the confusion.

he wont be able to write a full review as it was the demo and not fully suported with bios and graphics cards so it would be unfair to release a review without the full working model.

Ugh, mid-june is past my, "Need to be setup for summer/fall/winter," time table.

The way it looks now, I might end up with a D900F.

How quiet is the D900C under load?

Well, at least... give us some info about the gaming keys.
Do they programmable or just like the gaming keys in Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard (the gaming keys function as shortcuts to regular keys)?

i will have to leave this one to Neil.
i was one of the first (after andrew & neil) to touch this beast after it was taken out of the box but my main priority was to get the pictures taken at the gadget show so i could post them on the kobalt forum and on here as soon as possible for you all to see so i didnt really have any hands on playing with it.

as it has a rough ETA of mid june all your questions should be answered soon as the pre release reviews should be doing the rounds soon.

I heard this is what the Sager 9250 is going to look like since its M980NU right? that looks like something alienware would make lol. seriously though this computer looks awesome and has great specs. I think the 9250 is going to be similar if not the same as the 9250.
