Hey fellow Clevo nuts,
I found an old thread in the Accessories section and made a post there, but I thought I might have better luck here. Here is what I posted there:
As much as I have spent for this clevo, I am not really interested in the best of the cheapos (in reference to the Targus XL). I just want a solid bag that I can depend on, but not over 200. If possible I would lke to carry the laptop, power supply, korg nanokey, korg padkontrol, emu 0404usb, various cables, and maybe even a book or two. I need to be able to carry this load 5 days a week, every week.
However, if the Targus XL will do what I need it to do AND it is cheap, that is of course awesome.

Had I not chosen my BBP Hamptons with a Waterfield SleeveCase, I would have went with this setup instead.
http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/Vulture-II-Backpack-12p114.htm. You can find it cheaper with a little bit of Google searching.
http://www.sfbags.com/products/sleevecases/sleevecases.htm (size 32-24 for D900F)
The Vulture II is Maxpedition's flagship backpack. I added the sleeve because the backpack does not have the padding for notebooks. But it will carry your sleeved notebook and all your stuff without a problem. The Targus XL is small compared to the Vulture II. -
Hey Soviet,
Thanks for the great recommendation. I am not worried about the loaded weight at all, but that thing looks really big. Do you think it might be too big for a short guy like me, I am around 176 cm or so.
Also, that sleeve. Do you like it? From the pictures on the site, it seems like the computer is still exposed in places. -

I am the same height as you, 176cm, and I carried around camping gear on large racked back bags when I used to help out on retreats back in high school, and those were bigger and the payload was heavier than the Vulture II.
If you get the sleeve with the flap, it will cover the entire notebook. I specifically picked out the size for your D900F so that it leaves a bit more than half an inch from the opening of the sleeve. That is more than enough room to compensate for the sheer thickness of the notebook. I have this sleeve for my W870CU and my 1201N. The sleeves do their job. -
Thanks for the quick reply.
Unfortunately, Maxpedition isn't sold here in Japan. I could order and have it shipped, but I also found this other brand that seems to be the same thing, except they don't have the Vulture, but they have two versions of the Falcon, the same one as Maxpedition and a bigger one, at 35 liters capacity.
Here is the link:

What do you think about this? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Maxpedition and Magforce are the same company. The MF-0503 Falcon's main compartment is too small for even a bare D900F. The MF-0515 Super Falcon will be able to fit the D900F in it's main compartment but it might not be able to fit the D900F with the sleeve. The maximum width of the compartment is 317mm while the D900F's front to back width is 298.45mm, which leaves you with ~18.5mm, or 0.75in. Maxpedition is known for being conservative with their measurements so you might be able to squeeze the sleeve in there as well. It might be a tight fit, it might not even fit at all. It's too close to call so I'm going to say no on the D900F with the sleeve. The Targus XL would be a better choice over the Super Falcon in this case. If not, you can just import the Vulture II.
-
Cool, thanks for the info.
Probably anything that will work for the D900F will have to be imported. I know that Vulture and the Targus for sure are not available here. Guess I will just get a Vulture and have it shipped. Unless anyone knows of any other option that can compete with the Vulture in terms of size, strength, and price. -
I would suggest the Live Large backpack ( http://www.briggs-riley.com/category/productDetail.aspx?id=Live-Large-Backpack_VB415) from Briggs & Riley. I think it fits all your requirements nicely and is also within your budget. The backpack has lots of pockets to fit the various things you mentioned including power supply and notebooks. You can certainly depend on Briggs & Riley products, especially because they offer a lifetime warranty on all of them. If anything happens to your BR backpack, the company will repair it for you free of charge.

That's a really expensive bag. Also, you're a walking billboard for Briggs & Riley. Almost all of your posts here on NBR and on various other sites as well as your YouTube channel are for Briggs & Riley.

targus xl fits my M15x, W870CU 3 tet books 2 AC adapters 2 CD cases and pens and pencils and screw drivers ....
It hold alot and is huge. It fit m M17x with EASE ... I recommend it to anyone looking for a big bag on the cheapish -
Soviet, I suggested this backpack to TenisuBaka because it fell under the specified $200 budget and met most of the listed requirements. I have been using Briggs & Riley luggage for years now and I know how dependable their products are. I do comment on their products on platforms I find relevant and appropriate, but my only intention is to share my experience with people looking for similar products and see if it helps them in any way.

This is a very good backpack for 17" laptops, and there is plenty of room for peripherals etc.

8760 = 16.25" (w) x 11" (d) x 1.69"~2.25" (h). Does not fit? -
Umm... why NOT the Targus XL...
OP, you sound like you'd be OK with it, like if you HAD to take such a cheapo bag (best of the cheapos!)....
I'll just say this, Over the summer I had to work at a hospital doing data entry. They made me use MY laptop (they couldnt supply me with one -_-, and i said i had one, forgot to mention a HUGE ONE)
so for everyday for 2 months I commuted from home through manhattan, on a 2 hour each way commute, WITH my D901c (same size/weight as yours).
I even dropped the bag once or twice >_< (thank god it didnt break, only because it has great inner padding)
but the targus XL's straps never even wore when i use this thing to cary my laptop AND clothes AND textbooks home on breaks or weekends. Good weight distribution, its the perfect backpack!
Targus XL is not the BEST of the cheaps!, its the best i've seen, and i pu -
I just purchased this one and love it so far. My 8760 comfortably fits in the laptop sleeve, there are ample pockets for storage but the "hip" pockets might be my favorite feature, as I use one to store my wallet and the other for my mp3 player....both of which I can gain access to while it's still on my back.

Doodles,
Thanks for the positive info about the Targus XL. Since you genuinely seemed to be trying to be helpful, please allow me to say this for your benefit for the next time you try to help someone out. You need to learn how to read someone's intentions better. My original post was actually a response to someone else whose words were something along the lines that this bag was the best of the cheap bags. However, I specifically stated at the bottom of my post that if this bag does everything I need and its cheap, then that would be awesome. Normally, a person doesn't use the word awesome if they feel like they are settling for second best. Second thing is, the level of maturity you express discredits what you say slightly, try to keep that in mind.
However, thanks for your post. I am now having a hard time deciding exactly what to get, as it seems whatever I get will have to be shipped, which increases the cost. Plus I don't really have an option to return, which means I have to get it right the first time. The XL is definitely in my list. -
Captgus,
That bag looks like just the thing I am looking for. Please help me out by answering a few details questions.
There is a slight difference in thickness between our laptops. Yours is a bit thinner at a range of 1.69 - 2.25 inches. Mine is 2.35 inches. Do you think the D900F will still fit?
Also, can you give me any details about build quality? Stitching? Seems? Particularly about the zippers?
Really appreciate it if you can help me out a bit more. -
Yours will fit just fine, not too snug. As for build quality, I was quite impressed. I have a bag from SAVIER that I've use for my work laptops for the past 4 years and the nylon and stitching appears similar. I would imagine that this thing will outlast my 8760. If you haven't seen this video yet, it should give you a better idea. I was looking at this and the Velocity Matrix Pro from Slappa and the video sold me. I suspect I couldn't have gone wrong either way but I'm very happy with my choice as it suits my needs perfectly.

That Oakley looked pretty nice, it's even for sale locally here in Japan, but I can't get any solid data on the dimensions for the laptop compartment. Seems more of a fashion gimmick than an actual piece of gear.
