Yep. The 7970M is one of the fastest available single-core GPUs when matched with Ivy Bridge:
PassMark Software - Video Card Benchmarks - High End Video Cards
Like I said, the number is higher than the desktop HD 7870 most likely because almost every 7970M at this point is matched with the Ivy Bridge line, while you can take a test with the HD 7870 with any crappy processor you want, clouding the posted average score. Still a huge number though.
With new drivers the potential for game performance is exciting. -
Desktop specs are
2500k 4.4ghz
Sapphire 6970 (stock clocks)
16gb Corsair Vengeance 1600 timings 9-9-9-24
Crucial m4 64gb Boot
2x WD Blacks 640gb Raid 0 -

Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
I'm confused... how is this possible...
Are you running one at 2560x1600 vs 1080p?
the 6970 should be much more powerful no?
Although I guess the 7970 might just be much more optimized for Dx11 -
both were at 1080p
Laptop just beat my desktop with a 6970 in it.
