I think the position sensor on my lid is dead...
When I put it into standby, it didnt come out when I reopened the lid last night, plus the screen doesn't automaticly shut off when I shut the lid. It used to before.
Can anyone tell me where this sensor is and how i might be able to get it working again?

Are you sure the backlight doesn't turn off unless the display is 100% closed? I believe that is how it was with the Clevo M570U I tested.
-
Nope, the seal is pretty tight but the LCD stays on all the time. Dosnt seem to realize its closes anymore. Now I have to manually bring it out of standby instead of just opening the lid like before. =(

Ok, just go in the power managment options, and 1st reset to a default value (like max power). This usually solves 90% of the problems,
Under the options in the advanced tab, see that when you close your laptop it's set to go to sleep or something like this (my win is in french).
I think more of a software problem than hardware. -
1. I already have most of my power settings to NEVER, so it always runs at full power.
2. When I set "On close of lid" to stand by, it does not stand by when I close the lid because my lap top no longer knows when my lid is closed or opened, the sensor does not work.
Anoy other ideas? -
Nah, you're not listening to me
.
I don't want to know what your settings are; just set them to a different scheme so Windows override them in the registry. Then change it to whatever you want. After this make sure the option is properly set.
I once had a problem with a desktop that didn't want to go to S3 standby even though the BIOS was properly set. Just setting another power saving scheme, applying and coming back to what I had solve the thing.
Just give it a try. If it doesn't work you'll need an RMA I think

@Chaz
FYI My M570U backlight turns off when i'm about 80% closed. I mean there is a big gap for it to trigger standby. -
Apparently neither of us listen too well. I've already tried what you said, and it dosnt change the fact that my computer can NOT tell when the lid is closed. System settings be damned, the sensor DOES NOT WORK.
My system can go into standby just fine, and come out of it again when I press the power button. It used to be that if I just opened the lid, it would awaken, not anymore. Nor does the screen turn off when i shut the lid, like it did before.
(I was able to tell that the screen was shutting off, even if I couldnt see it turn off, was when I opened the lid, I saw it turn ON again and slowly brighten to full brightness. I can tell that way that it dosnt turn off when I shut the lid)
I'd just like a little info on HOW the computer knows if the lid is shut? Where's the sensor? IS there any way to reset or service it?
I wont RMA it over that, it's just too small an issue, but if I can get it fixed with little fuss or muss, then I'm all for it. ^^ -
Just to add.
My 5760 also does what DrSNAFU describes.
It does NOT go into standby mode when the lid is closed.
Changing the power settings, applying, then putting them back as p_boucher describes did nothing to resolve the issue.
Personally, it doesn't matter, as I turn the laptop off when I'm done with it. But it would be nice to find an answer. -
So both of you have the same issue?
Sorry DrSnafu I did not meant to be rude (my remark was more intended as a joke), nowhere in your previous posts you said you tried resetting the power management scheme.
My guess is that the sensor is built within the hinges.
I would definitely call tech support on this. There is not physical button anywhere around the LCD. My old presario used to have one though...
Still looking for a solution as if it was a software glitch.
Ultimately, you would want to reinstall Windows. Don't reject the possibilty the laptop sensor is working and that Windows is screwed up and don't know what to do with the signal anymore. -
Hmm, I havnt had much trouble in the way of software. The screen itself used to shut off when the lid was closed, is that managed by software or hardware? I would guess that the screen shut-off would be a hardware controlled item, could be wrong tho.
It isnt TOO big an issue, but something I'd like to inquire about. -
A quick call to tech support would get you the answer you're looking for you right away. Even if they don't have a quick reset/fix for you and offer an RMA, you can always decline since it's not a big deal to you.
I think that would be the fastest way to resolve your problem.
