Hm.
I've mulled over what's out there from pretty much all brands and by and large would choose a Dell XPS 2015 given it seems to tick most of my somewhat specialised personal needs. I am a bit confused by Sager / Clevo's model lineup though, so there might be an option here to consider.
What I'd value / Why the XPS 15 / Precision 5500 works quite well for me (not really in order of importance):
A. Screen with a really good colour space coverage, in to the Adobe RGB range even, on the 4k option. Use space is photography / video editing so that is one criteria that really matters.
B. Titchy and Light. It'll travel - and as I am often far from civilisation it will travel in hiking backpacks and bicycle panniers up mountain. So both weight and packing space are issues. 14-15" is an ok compromise on that end while having enough screen space to do editing, see above. My ideal notebook would have hot-swapable batteries, too, but alas.
C. Dell's serviceability / upgradability on those models seems fairly straightforward. Sager / Clevo probably has quite a bit more of an advantage here, still. Know how to pull things apart and put them back together, but the easier it is the nicer. The less soldered on and locked down the better.
D. SSD / m2 options. Because B. the less mechanical parts that dislike being shaken, the better.
E. Dedicated graphic cards as a complete package if needs to be. Options with Sager / Clevo better here, too, I'd guess.
F. Thunderbolt 3. 'Cause I am off and on the road so much a dedicated PC back home is somewhat wasted money most of the time. Having at least the option / chance to add an egpu solution down the road for some extra push when stationary back home is a plus.
With that in mind, and that I know there's always compromises, is there anything in the Schenker / Clevo lineup that'd be worth looking at? [The W506 probably (?) - but no reviews of the screen available?]
Thank you!

@Akhor - If you're looking for 15" maximum then I think the P870DM that @bloodhawk linked to will be much to big for your needs, plus you can have the 4K panel as a standard option in this chassis (XMG U726 and also the U716 in a couple of weeks).
You mentioned the Schenker W506 and I think this fits your requirements pretty well:
A/ display is Sharp LQ156D1JX01B - this isn't the cheaper Samsung Pentile / RGBW panel that is G-Sync "compatible" but a proper RGB display (same panel as in this review http://www.notebookcheck.net/Clevo-P651SE-Schenker-XMG-P505-Barebones-Notebook-Review.127978.0.html )
B/ unfortunately having a discrete and interchangeable GPU won't result in a very slim or light laptop, but the W506 is noticably more portable than a U726 for example
C/ All criteria met! Removable battery, interchangeable CPU and GPU as well as good access to memory and SSDs
D/ M.2 NVMe and 2.5" SSD support
E/ as above!
F/ USB Type-C with TB3 support
The models below the W506 will be more portable but lack the TB3 support and the 4K panels available are generally the Samsung RGBW, which does work with G-Sync but isn't a particularly good display in our opinion - which is why only offer the Sharp model.Last edited: Mar 21, 2016 -
Hi,
thank you for the speed reply - and especially confirming what display panel it uses. Was helpful. Will play around with possible configurations, and then order the one or the other sometime next month.
Lightweight Sager / Clevo option with good screen colour space (and some other bits)?
