I got my sager np9170 yesterday I tried installing Centos/Redhat 6.3 and Ubuntu 12.04 both desktop and server, my laptop does not boot with those. The screen goes blank or flicker continuously.

    My specs are

    nVIDIA GeForce GTX 670MX 192bit w/3GB GDDR5
    Intel Core i7-3630QM (2.4~3.4GHz) w/6M L3 Cache - 4 Cores - 8 Threads
    32 GB (4x 8GB) DDR3/1600 Dual Channel Memory
750GB SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM Hard Drive
msata 256 gb sata II (primary boot drive)
    Bigfoot Networks Killer Wireless-N 1202 + Bluetooth™ 4.0 Combo Card

Does anyone have success installing linux on np9170, and which version.

Are you able to boot or install either distro on another machine? It could be your installation files/media.

If the media is okay, then are you installing from Windows, or booting off of your installation device? I don't think there are any major problems with the 9170 as far as loading Linux.

Check in your BIOS under the boot menu make sure its not set to "Windows 8" under the OS Select part, that enables secure boot, just make sure its set to "other" :)

Yes the media is fine, I can install them on my old dell fine. I am installing and booting from CD.

I also did verify the Bios "under the OS Select part" and the option selected is "others"

Hey, I have a 9130 with the 670mx. I'm sure it's the same issue I had, it's the Nvidia Graphics card driver causing the issue.

Check this out: [ubuntu] Guide: How to Install Ubuntu 12.10 with newer Nvidia cards - Ubuntu Forums

No problem. Did you ever get this up and running? I never did. It would never progress even after following he steps in the thread. I'll have to try it again at some point but I'm just going to wait to see if the issues are resolved in 13.04. I did download a daily build of 13.04 and the GUI installer loaded fine so I'm sure most of these issues have been resolved.

Kinda sucks though because I want to use it nowwwwwww... lol

    @scottdrmyers

Were you able to (or did you attempt to) install from within Windows using the Wubi installer?

I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my Mythlogic Clevo system and it's working except for the backlighting at the moment. I have the 680m and didn't have to use the workaround for installing the 64bit version.

I'd rather not do that. I did manage to get it up and running after getting it to boot to a shell and manually installed the Nvidia driver that I saved on a flash drive. It's a pain. 13.04 will be released in a couple weeks so i'll try it then.

13.04 Daily build from today works PERFECT on intel graphics. I'm at work and can't try the Nvidia drivers right now, but no problems after installation. WIN. 13.04 is released soon so you shouldn't have any issues either.
