Hey folks, could anyone that is more into those Clevo notebooks help with a doubt?

I'm looking for a NP5160, or some other local brand that builds on the same chassis. The second seems to offer a good deal, but I would like to make some things clear. One important thing is about the screen, which is important to me.

How is the default NP5160 Full HD screen? Is it nice (at least compared to the other Sagers that are already nicely reviewed around the web)? And if it's really the only Full HD screen that fits on it, or if there could be used some other of lesser quality?

I don't mean an hypothetical lesser quality screen, but if there really are some cheaper screens around there...

I know, if you're willing to pay some extra, the builder might swipe something and use a premium part, but I'm actually concerned if the other builder could use a cheaper one than the builder that puts "Sager" on the back of the Clevo.
I think that maybe the builders get the screen together with the rest of the chassis, so it would likely not to happen to have different qualities (at least not for the sake of cheapest, just premium).

I hope someone can help, as I am about to pull the trigger today. Maybe a nice reseller could help me with this doubt? ;)
I just wish there were an open channel to chat with resellers around here (Brazil) like this forum.

    Thanks!

If i'm reading this right it seems like your concern is that a builder will take the screen that Sager puts in an put there own lesser quality screen in there.

If thats right you really dont have to worry about that. When you order a Sager notebook even from a reseller, the computer is build by Sager and shipped directly to you from them. Most resellers will actually never see the notebook unless there is some additional work that needs to be done to it which will require it be sent to the reseller first.

Hutsady, thanks for your answer! :)

But I think haven't made myself clear...

This other reseller I mentioned actually assembles its own machine from Clevo, as far as I know. It doens't have a connection with Sager at all, just with Clevo, but they build similar machines.

My doubt is if both options (this other brand and one Sager reseller that is available here) would have different screens, assuming that both are using the most basic option.

I assume that you wouldn't be able to know for sure what the market of notebook parts may offer, but I think you'll have a good idea of if its really possible for another brand to ship a Clevo with a worse Full HD screen than Sager would :)

I don't have any indicatives of so, I'm just wondering and I don't want to regret for going with a brand that I don't have that much of knowledge on.
I just don't know how far it should be compared to (or even, take as the same as) Sager.

Sounds like you're talkin about being scammed lol

They take the "nicer" stock screen and replace it with one of their "lesser quality" screens? I don't think you have to worry about that at all. If you don't pay for a screen upgrade, they shouldn't touch your screen. If you pay for a upgrade, then of course they take out the stock one and give you thE one you paid for.

Some will apparently even give you the stock screen to go with your upgrade? Think I saw that somewhere..

As far as Clevo Builders, the only two I can think of one here have a great rep and their customers love em. I'm sure if they were doing shady things like that, someone would have called them out on it by now :)

    hehehe
not like that. It's just that they could import a Clevo chassis with some lesser quality screen. Or couldn't they? (I don't really know if they have a cheaper option than the same as Sager...)

As you say, it seems like the "nicer stock" screens already come from Clevo and so I'll be calmed :)

Actually is a local (Brazillian) builder. I haven't seen any info on them around here, but in similar forums in Brazil, people usually like the screens and the overall build. But you need to know that the standard around here is pretty low, most people can't compare the screen to a nicer one because they never seen one. Every major brand just sells their basic models and even then I suspect they ship here whatever isn't a good fit for the American or European market.

The Sager reseller is newer around here, so I still don't have local opinions to compare :p

Also, this local brand don't even offer premium screens, so I don't fear being scammed in such a way. They offer just HD or Full HD screens.

Actually, the description on their site says:
    Screen: 15.6 (16:9) Full HD (1920x1080) LED-Backlit Display - Super Clear Glare

I don't think that it'll apply here as well... I would believe that Sager controls the Clevo market on America, but I wouldn't agree that easily that they would control it worldwide.

This local brand has been here for more time than Sager itself, that wouldn't make much sense if Sager showed interest on Brazillian market.

You probably should not bother too much due to the simple reason that the stock Sager screen might be cheap enough as it is :D (I don't know if other models use the same panel as x7200). I am not sure if there is a much cheaper option than the stock one and I sincerely doubt that anyone would go through the whole trouble to steal the possible 20-30 dollars difference.

^^ That's true. Most if not all TN panels of same size and resolution cost about the same regardless of the specs like gamut, brightness, contrast, etc.

And what about other parts, like optical drives??

I asked for a Blu-Ray Reader, it was cheaper on the local brand than with the Sager one.

Would you think it can mostly differ in quality? I don't think there's a lot of manufacturers for such things...
I thought it would be just a pricing policy of each company...

They/we are also charging the same price for the 72% and 90% gamut screen upgrade. First, high quality panels (no dead/stuck pixels, no/minimal bleed, no other defects) with warranty are much more expensive than those found on the black market for 60-80$. The lowest price for quality screens with warranty I've seen was ~140-160$ before shipping, but it can go as high as 220$+ before shipping with certain distributors.
Second, there's also a labor involved swapping the panels.

Wait...so the 95% gamut screen includes a no dead pixel guarantee?

Depends on the arrangement with your reseller. Generally, every panel is tested for quality and if dead pixels are found it should be replaced. The standard policy allows for up to 5 dead/stuck pixels, AFAIK. But some resellers may have their own policy, so please check with them directly.
