Hi guys
I have a NP8662 with the built-in fingerprint reader. How do I set up my windows, enabling the login only with the fingerprint, with no password at all?
Thank you
Paulo

I'm pretty sure you need a password for the fingerprint login to work. Otherwise what is the point of having to use the fingerprint when you can just click the icon. But have you tried not setting a password but enrolling the prints?
-
if you have just got your machine did you also get the turbo memory as this conflicks with the reader if they are not loaded in sequence.
firstly go to start > all programs > protector suite QL
click on user enrolment and it will guide you thhrough the set up or if you want to edit what youve already done then go to above and control panel instead.
once it is set up and when you turn on you will have to options of finger reader or password. just swipe your finger and done. -
I think he's aiming to remove the ability to type the password altogether.
Check the system options of the QL Suite, especially the "Credential Providers" list. There should be a credential provider that corresponds to your "Password", although I'm not sure if it will allow you to disable it.
There may be other ways to remove the password as a credential provider, but it seems fairly ingrained into the OS itself.
Two things you can try if your goal is to prevent users from attempting to password guess is:
Hide your username fom the logon list
or set your password lockout policy to 1. -
the other option is to make users need to input both password AND fingerprint to log on. means you need to do both every time, but noone else can get into your laptop.
-
you dont need to do both every time.
once registered and logged in it gives you the option on screen of both and you can use whichever you want. the pasword entry is for backup.
if your reader packs up for some reason then your buggered if you only had the one option. -
I was saying that he could have it that way if he wanted, so that noone else could access his pc. It could cause problems if his fp reader packed up, but I think there are ways around it (if you unplug the fpr, I think it asks you for a specific backup password)

I have to say, it's a silly gimmick but I love my fingerprint reader now
-
It just makes things so much easier
-
Yup, everything's easier.

One easy way to remove the ability to type in a password is simply to assign a random 20 character/digit password and then throw away the piece of paper you wrote it down on.
On the other hand, I'd strongly recommend you create a good password and then store it in a safe place just in case your fingerprint reader ever breaks.
I thought I'd also point out that Win7 supports fingerprint readers now so you don't need to load any proprietary login software (other than the hardware drivers). -
Did this actually work for you or is it just something you have heard because I found with my windows 7 install I could not get to computer to recognize the fingerprint reader without downloading the updated software suite. The drivers were there but it kept saying it wasn't connected
-
i had that problem first time I installed win 7. For the RTM it worked fine. But I've found that on wake the fingerpad doesn't work. UPEK have new drivers but don't work with the RTM yet.

spoke too soon, new drivers are posted. dling now.
Login using only fingerprint
