    Hello,

I was currently looking to get a new laptop as my current Inspiron 9300 is basically falling apart on me finally. Have had it for almost four years. However, I was looking at getting something to last me for four more years and plus and was recommended to get this laptop. However, I was told to wait for the 8700GT card to be available. I could use the laptop now as this one is really starting to become and inconvienence and is really agitating me. Should I wait for this card or go ahead and get the current one that comes with the model?

    Thanks all,

    Patrick

The only thing you are losing is the DirectX 10 capability if you buy now. It may be a while yet before we see the 8700M-GT in the M570RU (it has to be tested - the card is not even confirmed for the model). Personally, I'd say just buy now if you need it now. Sounds like you are due for an upgrade. :)

Ok, that leads me to the next question. If I got it now, would it be possible to upgrade if and when 8700GT becomes available?

    Well, doing it yourself would:

    1. Cost more to buy the card separately from a vendor. It costs about twice as much.

    2. It might void the warranty, I'm not sure, and you should probably know a bit about laptops before you attempt it yourself, although it really isn't impossible. . .

My suggestion is to wait until it is officially released for the M570RU, and buy it then.

This has me torn because I need one now but know I can wait. I'm just curious to as if the wait is worth it?

    Ask your self this question:

Will I be playing games on the highest settings in a year + from now?

How do you feel about stepping down to a 15.4" screen? You can check out the Sager NP2090 - it is based on the Santa Rosa platform and has Nvidia 8600M-GT graphics. And 15.4" is quite a bit more portable than 17", and it will get better battery life.

It is nice laptop, however I personally like the 17 inch screens a lot. I also kind of like the design of the M570RU with the orange trimming and the carbon fiber look around the keypad. I do like the NP2090 though. I hate shopping for laptops honestly. Technology is constantly coming up around the corner!

Haha, that exact same damn thing just happened to me... except in this case my 5760 hasn't even arrived, meaning I'm getting one of the very last ones XD It's all good... I was thinking about just leaving the dx10 compatibility for when I build a gaming rig anyway.

OP, I would go for the M570RU right now if you can. Two reasons. 1) You prefer 17", and this is a 17" with a video card which ought to be able to support gaming on the native resolution. 2) The 7950GTX is a good card, and since DX10 games aren't really going to be only DX10 for a couple of years, the GPU will serve you well (and who even needs DX10? basically only adds smoke effects). 3) If needed, it has MXM-IV. That means that you can swap out the graphics cards. There are sure to be some people on the interwebz who will be willing to purchase your 7950GTX if they also have MXM-IV, so that should save you money to buy an 8 series.

    Good luck with the decision!

When I built my rig back in March 2006, it was the ONLY dual-core notebook on the market... and it had the 7800GTX. About 2-3 months later, the Clevo M570U came out with Core Duo and 7900GTX.

Oh well, my Clevo still is a powerhouse and is built well enough to last my for years to come. :) $2800 for my rig back then was still amazing :D

As for the Clevo M570RU, its definitely one of the most advanced gaming notebooks available... with future proofing written all over it:
    - Santa Rosa platform
    - Penryn ready.... Socket P
    - up to 4GB DDR2
    - interchangeable and standardized MXM-HE(IV) .... 3 cards available for it by Fall (7950GTX, 8700M GT, Quadro 3500M)

... and the amazing 8800M shold make its debut by Winter.

Only the D900C is the other notebook with this MXM slot... it can support MXM-II, III, and HE.... thats just 1337 !!!
