Heya all, New here:
I'm a... was... proud owner of a M57RU ( oddly enough its product code is M570U-U, not sure if its U-U or just U right about now). Just got mine back from a OEM warranty repair that took way too long. Was a bit disappointed, after the long delay, to see that the laptop is having some issues:
- Missing the rubber screw stoppers on the screen. Nothing major, put in some temporary modified rubber stoppers to hold the screen from touching the pad.
- Initially the laptop worked fine (with the hard drive working). Windows XP ran, and the games with it.
- Decided to reformat due to clutter i had on the laptop., Upon reformat the laptop just "automatically" shut down, First time during reformat, second time after a pause during installation in windows..
- Rinse, and Repeated, to see why it was doing it, did a chkdsk and a memory check, and attempted 2-3 times.
- Both made the laptop shut down around 50-75%.
- Xubuntu is probably the only thing that succeeds to install.
I deducted that the CPU is overheating to a shut off point as I'm trying to reinstall windows :/
Since the OEM is located in the US and I live in Finland, you can see that this is very expensive thing to send back and forth. This is exaggerated by the fact that the OEM has become non-responsive as of late/uncontactable and all, I wont even dare to send it back anymore... Originally I bought this while being in the Philippines and at the time the service was really good (about 2 years back).
So, Now I've have decided to take matters to my own hands, I've build Desktops with my hands, and know that laptops are more complex and compact, and don't have "universal parts support" as Desktops do, which is why I do require assistance. Ofcourse This is a learning experience.
First and Foremost, I need to clear up some stuff with the laptop:
The CPU and GPU fans are all clear, no dust, no funky stuff blocking up the vents. There is a Aluminum Heatsink at the end of the CPU copper pipe Glued(?) to it (cant remove it).
The CPU is a T9500 Penryn. The Case it self was completely replaced, and there apparently is a new motherboard as the old one got fried during my visit to the Philippines. With the exception of the bottom cover which is still the same M57RU bottom cover I've had last time. (Now its, possibly the newest Version of the M57RU). I'm trying to figure out where to get software (for Linux or Boot) to underclock and test if its the heat is the cause of the problem.
When I start up the laptop, the CPU fan spins from slow and gradually starts screaming like a Jet and puffing air at a really high rate. The Larger GPU fan seems to stay still, but if i remember right it will start moving like the CPU fan after a while. The GPU has stayed at warm temperatures during the whole time i have been trying it out. (not sure if this blasting of the fans was normal on idle, it has been a really long time since i had the laptop working on me last).
So yeah: Does anyone know what might be the issue?
Also does any one know of an importer within the European Union that may provide spare parts such as Heat Sinks and possibly case parts such as the rubber stoppers for the screen and a new bottom shield for the laptop (3 fan) or is that a U-U exclusive?
Thanks
PS: I'm not gonna mention any names.
