I'm coming from a W110ER w/ 650M and a P150HM w/ 670M (not owned by me). I love these machines, but I loathe the noise they make. I could reluctantly put up with it for another generation, but I want to make sure it doesn't get louder than my machines now.

I'd appreciate it if anyone could give offer their insight. I have a few questions:
    • Between the P150SM and P157SM, is one quieter than the other?
    • How would a P15xSM w/ a 870M compare to the W110ER/P150HM in terms of fan noise? 880M?
    • In your opinion, which Clevo configuration has the best noise-power ratio?
    • The only reason I've avoided the 860M is because it has 2GB of VRAM and I've seen newer games use more (Watchdogs, Titanfall). Is this a bad reason to avoid the 860M?

I'd rather not wait another generation for 20nm, but current options seem lacking.

    Thanks for reading!

    Neither, the cooling Iis identical.
870m and 880m produce roughly the same heat.
P570WM I suppose as it uses 4 larger fans with a hex core cpu. Mobile cpu wise the p170sm.
By based on the gpu power you need. Ram amount is a secondary concern.

Because the heatsink and fan are smaller. Simple really. The 150 sm is significantly larger so can afford a much beefier cooling system.

A larger chassis also tends to lead to more potential for easier heat dissipation. The W230SS fans need to work a little harder due to these conditions.

Yes, it has to in order to accommodate the non-mobile CPU with its higher TDP, as well as the potential for two GPUs.

It's on the extreme end of making it bigger to improve cooling.
