Hello folks,
Soon my 9262 will be here and I am excited. I must thank you and these forums. If I hadn't lurked on here for the past couple months I would never had known about Sager or Clevo and Probably woulda ended up with a dell.. or aw or something. Not saying that's a bad thing... just saying that's probably the way it would've happened.
So anyways to the point. I want to protect my baby and I was wondering what some of you have been using to carry around your 9262's. I know everyone's saying backpack cause its heavy but most backpacks just look dumb. I must admit though I'm more concerned about protection than looks. This is what I'm currently looking at:

Let me know what you guys think and if you have some other ideas for me. Thank you so much!

i think it would be better if you got a Back Pack, instead of having all of that weight on one shoulder
-
Just think the laptop without the power adapter is 5.5 Kg. My future former laptop Amilo D 1845 had 3.5 kg and it was damn heavy and very inconvinient to carry on only 1 shoulder.

Yeah I'm sure you guys are right. I just liked the idea of a hard shell and I liked the look of it. I'll probably go with the backpack from the same company. Which is this:

Are there any other bags like this around? -
Also, hate to sound like a noobcakes, but when a laptop is referred to as 15" or 17" Are they talking about the depth of the laptop or the monitor size? the 9262's dimensions are a 17" monitor but a 15.5" depth. So for the backpack do I get the version designed for a 15" or a 17"?

I have a xps backpack and oddly it fits nice.
I also have a targus and a pelican i just got. -
I've been using a Mobile Edge Premium (MEBPP1) 17" bag for about three years now to transport my Alienware Area 51-M7700 (Clevo D900T) 17" beast around, and I have no complaints. In fact, I just bought another one so I can continue using the bag with my new NP9262 and allow my wife to carry around the D900T.
I'll highlight a few positives and negatives from my experience:
- I've deployed twice (Army). Fully loaded with all my personal electronics, laptop, and some toiletries, this bag still fits under the seat in an airplane. I can't say it leaves a whole lot of extra room for my legs, but the biggest pleasure for me is that I do not have to check my bag and worry about external damage.
- There's lots of back padding, and the shoulder straps are quite comfortable.
- There is a securing strap and a padded internal sleeve for the protection of your 17" laptop.
- Highly durable Cordura fabric, and reflective spots for low visibility safety. After three years, there hasn't been a rip, tear, zipper separation, or broken item on this bag; this bag has been through... five countries.
- My wife loves this bag as well. Anyone who has owned a Desktop Replacement laptop knows they are neither light or comfortable to lug around. If my wife can tolerate it, then chances are that you could too.
- For those of us with notebook coolers, a reasonably designed one will fit within the main storage compartment of the bag.
The only main gripe I have is that some of the spaces inside of the bag are literally cavernous. So, you might have some small difficulty securing loose items within the bag. I usually use a gallon ziplock bag to organize small items so they don't go flinging around during transport.
Anyhow, hope this helps. I've also heard some good reviews about the Mobile Edge SecurePack 17" for the security-minded traveler. (Edit: According to psycroptik, NP9262 Laptops will not fit properly in this bag, so caution should be exercised when considering your bags.) -
Spirals,
A quick additional post, here. I re-read your commentary on your selection criteria for the bag. I really do think you'll regret putting all that weight on a single shoulder through a protective laptop briefcase. These laptops with their peripherals are NOT light. Your shoulders will greatly appreciate the weight distribution.
I searched through roughly 30 bags before deciding to re-order the same bag I have been using for three years. I have seen some of the competition up close (Targus XL, for example) and have not been thoroughly impressed. The level of security and protection that the Mobile Edge bag provides allows me to have some valuable peace of mind. I suppose that if I went ballistic on my bag and kicked it, I would be nuts not to expect some sort of static damage (hard drive), but for MOST incidents, I would wager that my laptop will remain completely safe.
After all, exactly how many other users have you heard with a D900T that has gone through 3 years of service without a single component replacement?

thanks Raven for that incredibly insightful and helpful suggestion. I'll look into those bags for sure. I think I definitely decided on a backpack. However I'm still kinda leaning towards a slappa. If the backpack in the link I posted is to big to carry on to a plane I'll look into the mobile edge you suggested.

The last one I saw recommended the SecurePack, so I bought it....
It will fit if you like to force things into tight places, which might work for your social life but not happening on a 4k laptop -
I ended up with a targus roller case, and I couldn't be happier. Granted I don't need to ride a bike or anything with it.
It keeps all the weight off me completely, I could walk all day with it and barely notice. It also holds my software book etc with room to spare. -
Places I go to on business the roller cases scream "Look at me I am a businessman, come rob me." If you go to these kinds of places stick with a backpack, you'll just look like a tourist or student if your young.

....and thats the kind of insurance im lookin for for my $4000 laptop!
i dont need any "dexgo" fiascos.... -
If you plan on traveling a lot I would suggest the Pelican 1495 with the notebook sleeve / organizer package. It will fit under the seat of most planes, offers the toughest protection you can get, and fits the 9262 perfectly with no space to move around. The shoulder strap is padded and not too uncomfortable, even with long distances. If you don't need something that's crushproof and waterproof to 30 feet, or feel that you would like the 20 lb load distributed evenly instead of on one shoulder, then a backpack is in order.

Quick question for city goers. I commute with this badboy about twice a week, since i half dorm/half live at home. I need a BACKPACK, that is sturdy to hold THIS beast and a text, and some laundry lol. I already dropped the stupid shoulder case once. Heard a LOUD f'king crack which scared the hell outta me. THank god nothing was even cracked. SO something that can withstand ALOT of weight on the zipper so it wont come open, as well as a rickity train. Wat do you guys suggest?
