Does this mean that the Sager 9260 is a thing of the past when these things come out >_< AAACK i thouhgt the SAger 9260 would lead in top performance for a good while! Anyone know how the NP9260 holds up against these new upcoming beasts?

I'm not sure which new models are coming out now but even though the Sager 9260 might no longer be #1 it'll still be powerful.

The notebook won't become a thing of the past until a few years from now when it's technology is super old.

Like Dx10 cards are now out but dx9 isn't considered "old-school"

No the 7950GTX in the 9260 is not DX10 compatible :(

The 9260 is kind of in its own league. It is nothing but a DTR notebook :D

9260 has desktop components that can never be surpassed by notebooks.
5790 must be the one you're referring to, and it can only support 1 graphic card, while 9260 can support 2 cards.

The NP9260 is still #1 by a good margin due to its processing power, its Dual SLi video cards, its 3 hard drive with RAID 0/1/5 capability, its FSB and its 800MHz memory up to 2GB...

The NP5790 is a great laptop in that it is smaller, more portable with plenty powerful...but it in no way will "out power" the NP9260.

    Drivers for what video card?

If it is a Sager, drill down under Support on their website.

So the NP9260 can't use 4GB of 800mhz? But it can use 4GB of 667mhz? That seems a bit odd.

DDR2-800 only has up to 1GB sticks at the moment for notebooks... or more price effective.

I thought this would work, no?

    The cheapest I've found for it is $393.75. (Which I don't think of as a bad price...or am I off :p )

I agree, there really is nothing that compares to the NP9260.

Wu Jen, this issue is will it work in the NP9260...it can be a bit touchy and several brands and batches have been tried but none have been successful.

Sager is working on it and when they find a reliable source they will make the 2GB 800MHz memory available.

how much of a difference would addind a second videocard do to my laptops performance on Half-Life2, Prey, and Command and Conquer 3? These are all currently running on high and seem to run smooth. Would adding a second one do something more to the games?

from what i have been told, the 800 mhz vs 667 is not a significant performance boost, and thereby, if you wait a while they will become cheaper anyway.
    right?

In S.T.A.L.K.E.R., on a Sager 9260, I noticed an increase from 30 FPS to around 50-60 after enabling the second card in SLI Mode. A lot of it depends on how well the game supports SLI as well. I've heard that some games actually take a small hit to their performance in SLI mode. I can't confirm it, but that's what I've heard. Also, if your already running the game at high settings, your not going to notice a visual improvement. The second card doesn't magically make the graphics prettier. What you will see is a more stable, probably higher framerate.

I must admit I was a SLI skeptic for a long time, until I actually got to use it. Even if it doesn't give you a substantial increase in FPS, it makes the framerate much smoother, meaning you won't see significant dips in FPS (providing that the cards in question are powerful enough to run the game being played at a decent framerate to begin with). This can be the single biggest factor for immersion. Even if a game only runs at 20 FPS, if it is a constant 20 FPS, the game appears smooth and fluid, allowing the person in front of the screen to focus more on what he or she is doing in the game, and not wondering how they can improve their FPS.

If you wait almost any tech will become cheaper...just depends on how long your willing to wait, lol!

Thanks Paladin44 for the info on the 9260 not being able to support 4GB of 800mhz ram. I see some resellers are offering it. I'll stay back a bit and wait and see if the bugs can be worked out first. Thanks again!

that was really good analysis, we are really interested in knowing specific details for some common games like half life 2 and others. Maybe we can check through invidia site ?!

I did some Half-Life 2 benchmarking on the NP9260 evaluation unit we have, my full review will be up at the end of the week. I also benchmarked several other games.

looking forward for it! my half life 2 game had some gnarly audio stutters the other day to the point where i had to press the power button on my Sager 9260 O_O. I defraged and it helped a bit but no cigar. I then uninstalled and erased steam and re-downloaded Half-Life2 with steam. Worked like a charm again...My question is why does that happen? Does the Sager support 5.1 sound? is that built in? I chose that and maybe the laptop is not therefore it causes a conflict?

The sound in games can have a common issue in integrated sound cards... therefore change the setting to Software Sound (from Hardware Sound) when problems arise.

And keep the sound to 2 Channel, unless if you have external multi-channel speakers connected.

where is the option for software sound? Is that a ingame option i have to look for? In Half-Life2 i think maybe lowering audio quality would do the trick right?

Thanks for sharing your experience with the SLI on that beast.

I noticed you said "enabled", which makes me have to ask... Is it difficult to toggle from 1->2 cards? Does it require rebooting? Bios options? thanks.
