Don't feel bad, i'm just as tech noob as you. I will be looking to install an ssd in my rig soon. As far as physically installing, yea it is that simple. But, then you need to either migrate your OS and files over or do a clean install of your OS. Also, you may need to go into the bios and switch which sata port you boot up from.

I've been looking for guides myself and you can generally find them online, good video tutorials and the like.

You can also check the drivers disc that came with the computer. There is usually a manual on there which will provide hard drive upgrade instructions.

Have you ever used Paragon? I am thinking of spending the $20 on it so i can just throw in an SSD, migrate everything over and be done with it. Any thoughts?

Never have used any migration software, as Meaker mentioned I always perfer a clean install. With an SSD it takes all of 10 minutes for OS install but of course some more time to put your programs etc back on there.

I agree with Hutsady and Meaker; a fresh install is ideal, even if it does take more time, it's far less likely to produce future hassle/complications.

Although it's a long read, here is a guide (albeit physical installation, as it is not specific to any make or model of laptop): The Complete Guide to Solid-State Drives
