I am now a few weeks away from my purchase (barring any unforeseen issues), and I figure I would post here for feedback.

Phoenix Upgrade Plan: Lifetime Phoenix Upgrade Plan

    $2804.91 total cost.

I am considering the upgraded keyboard but i am wary of the $100 being wasted if I do not like it. I would love to paint the lappy, a nice bright red, but not sure it is worth the money to do so.

There are a few extras, I have lake front property so I want three adapters, one perma at home, one perma at lake and one for travel. I want the drive caddy for the OD slot, backups and imaging made easy.

The drives will be in RAID 0.

8GB vs 16GB well I have 16GB in my desktop....I may drop it to 8GB yet, but its not huge savings.

Also wondering if warranty past 1yr worth it, my instincts say no.

I think the two-way shipping Canada upgrade includes initial shipment, so no brokerage fees, but I still will need to pay Uncle Harper.

I would suggest not to RAID the SSD's. When doing so you'll lose TRIM support which is specifically designed to help SSD last longer. TRIM is not supported with RAID so the drives could fail early on you. A single disk setup will still get you very fast speeds.

i would defo upgrade the warranty. from mysn uk its a standard 2 years and ive upgraded to a third year.

you spend almost $3000 on a lappy but save a few dollars on upgrading the warranty.
in 14 months time something happens (not saying it will but electrical things do go wrong) and you need a new cpu/gpu/ssd. thats you buggered as you then pay shipping/parts/labour. ill let you do the maths.

I'd be wary about picking the 7970M, you most likely will have problems with it not playing games properly.

Very true and good advice, how ever Intel jusst released TRIM enabled RST drivers 11.2 desktop, which have been tested work on mobile 77 chipset.

How ever, dropping the secondary drive, and using a 7200rpm 500GB I have on hand is a thought. I may do just that for the savings.

And i had those very thoughts, if I drop the second SSD, that could fund the warranty. I will consider it, thanks.

Would advice getting the 680M instead of the 7970M.. which still has some problems

Also as you yourself mentioned, 16GB isn't worthy, even considering the small price for the upgrade

True, but AMD is aware of the issue and working on it. Nvidia went through the very same issues with Optimus upon release, but memories with the green are short.

Since this is a secondary rig, and mobile powerstation for me, and my main rig a desktop, the 7970m is my choice.

    I appreciate your input though.

Backup secondary game system, mobile game system. I travel alot, so I want a powerhouse system on the road.

I also attend game nights so want a system capable of running any game we decide to play.

Also want 3yrs out of it min.
