Sorry, i meant 20V 6A, could not edit the title.

Hi, are any of you running on external batteries? In my laptop (sager np8662/clevo m860tu) i took out the battery and replaced it with another laptop fan, thinking that since i upgraded my cpu to Qx9300, the battery wouldn't last any way. I know that it's on old machine but it still runs healthy and still very capable.
The Qx is just very power hungry and inefficient especially when compared to the latest cpus, but i know there even more power hungry systems out there also like those 300 watt sagers.
was just wondering, are any of you running on external batteries to supplement your systems? If so, which brand and how long does the battery last? Is it easily portable? I don't really mind carrying another bag for it when i really need it.

Thanks i advance for the replies.

Just make sure it can deliver 6 amps at 19V if you intend to do anything 3d while using one.

I'm so sorry, I meant 20v 6 amp. I remember I can only find 19v and 21v and rarely do they go up to 6amps, theyre normally up to 4.5 amps if iremember correctly.

Thanks Meaker, was also considering 3smf 12v car batteries and a 120w dc to ac inverter, but I doubt I can bringnthat to metings hehe. Site visits probably.

Also car batteries are designed not to be repeatedly deep cycled ;)

You can use a lower rated (in amps) battery so long as you don't fire up the GPU and overdraw the battery.

Ah, so that means if i undervolt my laptop i'll be fine. I guess that's good enough, i never thought that would be ok. Thanks so much Meaker!

What Meaker said is: dont use the GPU for 3D. Even if you undervolt everything, again, dont use the GPU in anything demanding. Undervolting doesent really lower power consumption THAT much (it helps a little, though).

With browsing the net, media playback and office documents it will be okay (just no CAD programs or games). Overdrawing power from any battery (more than its capable of) will bring no good...

The other option would be to use a p state camper on the GPU take it down a notch (the one which halves clock speeds) a 4.5 amp battery should be able to cope with that. You need that much of a drop to ensure you don't over draw.
