Hi,
My search for a new notebook has been narrowed down to two models - one of which is the M570TU. BUT I need to see some reviews of the thing.
The other is the Asus M70VM-A1. Both specced virtually the same they have a $300AU price difference with some other subtle differences. Biggest difference is video card.
I know I like the Asus. Great notebooks. I have one already and I have seen this new model in the flesh and like it.
I want to love the M570TU. I want to see it in the flesh and think this is the best notebook EVER! There is a warehouse distribution point for a M570TU builder here in my city which I am going to call to see if I can see/touch one. But I feel I really need to see some M570TU reviews - fan noise, screen quality, inputs eg esata, USB2.0 etc, keyboard quality etc. I know it will be a beast under the hood but the devil is in the detail.
Any reviews of the M570TU out there people can point me to???

nothing too big but I will be posting a full review soon and so will Chaz. His will be better lol.

The Asus M70VM-A1 does not even compare with the 570TU. The latter is the stronger one.
Look for 5793 reviews, add silent mode , e-sata and HDMI and that`s it. -
Is it good? Are you happy with it? What is "wrong" with it?
The specs in your sig are identical to what I would be getting but I would need Ultimate due to Active Directory needs.
The only thing I WISH this model had - and would make it an absolute 100% no brainer - is space for 2 hard disks.
I know the ASUS doesn't have it but there is a model that does - the C1 in that range. Obviously graphics and gaming are important to me otherwise I wouldn't even be looking so the ASUS would be a "compromise".
I'm yet to find the perfect notebook! I think the M570TU with 2 harddisks would be it. I like the M570TU form factor (thinner - seems more portable) better than the super clunker D901C (seems VERY thick). -

This guy seems to love it!

True the 9800M is more than twice the card that the 3650 is but gaming is just one of the things this machine is going to do. It's an overall "thing" when you get a feel of a notebook. The ASUS M70SA-B1 can have two hard disks plus it's got everything I need - except an awesomely powerful card.
2 hard disks and less powerful card and less money
or
1 hard disk and more powerful card and more money
It's a tough call. -
That's exactly the sort of "real" experience I am trying to get ahead of time. Can't run apps off a USB drive though...well maybe you can but I've never tried - probably would be slow. I currently have 193GB of games installed on my PC. Sure I don't play them all at the same time but at the same time I have played them all at some stage or another. Some I haven't finished with yet so don't want to uninstall them. I have uninstalled a lot and have quite afew not-installed that I would like to install at some stage. I could quite easily add another 100GB to that 193GB of games if I installed some of my other "fav" games. 320GB isn't enough for me if it's just one hard drive for everything. 320GB as a single drive for my games is sufficient. But on top of that I would want atleast a 200GB drive for OS and Apps.
I have a 1.5TB Thecus N5200 Pro with MP3's and stuff plus a couple of 80GB USB 2.0 pocket drives and others. So space to run music etc isn't an issue.
I'm used to a lot of space. I like a lot of space. I would prefer 2 x 250GB 5400 RPM drives to 1 x 320GB 7200 RPM drive. Space is more important to me than load speeds. So that's why it's a tough call me for me and why I WISH the M570TU had 2 hard disk bays! I would get it with a 200GB 7200RPM for OS and apps and 500GB 5400 for everything else.
This is all helping me make my decision by the way so thanks! -
The M570Tu also has an eSATA port so connecting a HD through that would be about equal to an internal drive.

Yeh it's not easy choosing a new laptop. Definitely easier building a new PC!!
My perfect notebook would be the M570TU with two hard disks or the ASUS M70VM-C1 or C2 with a 9800M GT or equivalent.
A decision will be made! Right now I'm glad I have finally narrowed it down to two form factors! -
If you really want space, i saw some eSata 1Tb so you got the speed of an internal device, so i dont think the fact that there's only 1 HDD inside would stop you from chosing it
-
Yeh I just ordered a 320GB e-sata drive. It'll be useful either direction I go. I'm virtually 99% going for the M570TU now. The graphics card is just not good enoughin the ASUS. Just got to find the right price for what I want.

A hard drive is one of the easiest things in the world to upgrade on your laptop. Also storage has gotten really cheap even on the ultra portable side of things, 32 gig usb sticks are only 100 bucks now. To me not buying the 5796 just because it doesn't have that extra bay seems a little silly.
-
It's not silly if you want to have 200+GB of games on the hard drive all the time and 90GB of apps and only have a single hard drive with 320GB capacity. I'm tossing up between 500GB 5400RPM or 320GB 7200RPM.
I would prefer to not have to "choose" or compromise. My preference would be 320GB hard disk 1 and 500GB hard disk 2. That would give me chitloads of space and last me ages.
One hard disk is a pain for me.
Also upgrading the OS by changing notebook hard drives is easy but time consuming. My time is precious to me so the Primary OS partition and install gets done right first time. Only time I reinstall windoze is if it's totally buggered or I am feeling in a mood to waste hours reinstalling chit. -
Back in 2002, I was dissapointed with the hard drive performance of my hdd in the compaq presario 2816ea notebook. It was a 4200(or 4500?) drive. 30GB. Constant problems in games skipping etc. 7200 2.5" were not available yet, so I went ahead and risked and bought an external Iomega USB2 80GB 7200 drive. I installed games on it and the problems in many games would go away, while in others would be reduced a lot. Bare in mind that that was 2002-3.
So it does work, but don't know if modern games are too demanding for a USB2 connection or not.
btw, that 80GB drive...still works after 6 years (4 of which switched on for several hours per day). -
Are the M570TU fans loud?

Yeah, I was expecting vacuum cleaner-level (as I first fumbled to plug it in) based on some posts, but actually ... it's not at all bad. Like all 'white noise' - if you're not actively listening out for it, I doubt you'll really notice it's there. Get a notebook cooler if you're too worried
By the way a couple of other things about the Asus - the resolution seems worse than WUXGA and it seems to have DDR2 RAM. The first being a negative (in my opinion) the second being a positive (DDR3's immature latencies). Finally, Clevo are supposed to be the 'Master Yodas' of NB cooling, which is pretty important, especially with Nvidis's new 'spontaneously combusting' range of GPUs -
