I am looking tho get a new Sager laptop and would like a little input before making my final decision. I debating between both the NP5790 and the NP9260.

This new laptop will be used for both work and gaming. Also, it will be traveling with me as I fly regularly.

Here are the primary apps. I will have on the laptop for work......
    SolidWorks 2006 Office Premium
    Adobe CS3 Master Collection
    Sony Vegas+DVD Production Suite
    Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007

Here are some of the games I will play on the laptop......
    Crysis (Release on November 16th)
    Counter-Strike: Condition Zero
    Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08
    Half-Life 2
    The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
    GTR 2
    NASCAR SimRacing
    OutRun 2006
    MotoGP 3: Ultimate Racing Technology
    Lock On: Modern Air Combat
    Dangerous Waters

I just want to make sure that the laptop I get is able to handle these. Do you think that the nVidia 7950 GTX, coupled with the T7700 C2D, 2GB RAM and a 7.2K rpm hard drive would be appropriate for all of these?

    Short answer: Absolutely.

Long answer: If you plan on running Vista, at least 3 GiB of RAM would be beneficial for some of those apps. Make sure to get at least 160 GB of HD space. (You didn't specify size. HD speed isn't critical for anything on your list.)

I am looking at the 200GB Hard Drive and I will upgrade the RAM myself if it needs to be bumped up to 3 or 4GB.

go for the 9260 if you dont care about portablilty as much, then then you have much more upgradebilty options in the future.

Personally i would go for the 9261, wait until it is release pre orders start in september 20 or so. It will support quads so if you eventually want them you have the option. Me i have the 9260, happy user, also dont get sli or if you do wait until 8800 gtx (if finally they are worth it... ) )are out. Not worth it in my opinion getting 7950 2x right now anymore too late in their life cycle.

Since you travel/fly a lot, weight is probably an issue. Hence the M570RU (aka NP5790) would be the way to go :)

If you want to run @ native res with high settings, get the 7950GTX.
If you're comfortable @ 1440x900 with high settings, you might want to save a bit and get the 8700M

Also, the 7700 could be overkill :) You might (again) settle for less speed and less money :)
(Of course, you might really want the faster CPU, just pointing out that most likely, you won't notice the difference in speed, but you will notice the difference in money :D)

The NP9261 would be great for desk use but if you plan on traveling, definitely not. I'd also recommend the NP5790 in this case.

Personally I'd get a single 2GB module and later on get another. I highly recommend that you get Windows XP. Vista is bloated, slow, and unstable in my opinion. I found that it hampered my productivity.

I did get the 9620 even though I travel. I will take my first flight with it on Sunday. I fly twice a month and generally sit where I am for several weeks so I thought the extra weight/performance acceptable. It is definitely heavy.

I agree about waiting for the 9261 if you can. It will give you more options. The news about it came out about 6 days after I ordered my 9260  But that's they way things work with tech. Once you buy, don't look back.

This is a good time to point out that if you are going to do any media editing (audio/video), then the quad-core will make a significant performance difference.

I got my D900K way back in March 2006... even though I travel a lot with it on a daily basis. I just needed to power that this system gives to do my work (from graphics to video editing), as well as game.

    Thanks for the posts guys!

Chaz, I will definately be going with the "XP Pro SP2" version as Vista has just way to many problems associated with it right now. Also, I am leaning towards having 2GB RAM installed initially and will upgrade this in the future myself, if need be.

I am looking at going through "PowerNotebooks.com" to get my unit. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions on this?

As far as the video card goes, I will probably get the "7950 GTX". I will be doing heavy 3D modeling and media (audio/video) editing for work, as well as gaming, as stated in my first post. But, this is still a debate of mine and is where I would welcome some more discussion.

Seeing that the new 9261 will be rolling out on Sept. 20, does anyone know any of the specs on this laptop or where I could get the information? There is little information that I can find on this upcoming laptop. If the new 9261 would fit my needs and requirements, it would definitely be the one to get because it will have the new quad-core. I will travel with this unit and I would like to keep the weight down if possible. This is the main reason I am considering the NP5790.

The only difference I am aware of with the 9261, relative to the 9260, is a Mother Board update which allows use for the quad core cpus, other than that I think the specs are the same.

But I think you should consider the 9261 as the quad is most utilized when doing heavy video editing and such.

If not, you should be more than fine with a dual core processor.

    Anyways, happy hunting!

Yep 9261 is only a mobo update, no other changes apparently. Was thinking myself of getting the new mobo and installing it myself on my 9260. Will enable quad processors on a laptop, for video editing and rendering its a most, gains are almost 100%. Probably wont find much info on it until the 20 of sept as pre orders are supposed to start on some websites, expected shipping date was about the middle of october.
