The last real high end notebook I purchased was a Alienware back in like 2004-2005'ish. It was a high end 9xxx i think if memory serves me. It was a clevo based machine i think that Alienware rebranded. Needless to say it was sent back to Alienware 4-5 times for heat issues and other various issues. The machine never ran right and was a huge waste of money. Fast forward to now..

I have been intrigued by the new dual 680sli :) My fear is the same issue of heat and other strange issues. I hate hate hate having to tweak and work on something all the time. So I have been talking with XoticPC and working on build options. I emailed a few questions to Josh and he has been real helpful.

I am looking currently to add of course the Diamond thermal paste and then having Xotic PC add the extra copper heatsinks. I am NOT planning on over clocking, but merely wanting to make the machine as efficient as possible. Anyone have this option done and is really helpful. I know the highflow brackets EVGA use to offer didnt really help :) thats why they stopped selling them. :)

Next is I was searching through the forums here and saw someone mention the killer wireless nic 1103 had issue with windows 8. I am planning on getting it with windows 7 as I am a slow migrator and am not digging 8 yet. I think i might be interested bluetooth at some point. But I am really more into performance than having bluetooth. So If I have to sacrifice bluetooth for the1103 because it performs better I will. I hate to use USB for bluetooth though. Im in a pickle. :) Should I just go with the other killer mic with bluetooth? Performance not that much of a difference?

Any performance or heat issue people are having?

Other than these questions I think I am pretty comfortable with my other choices..

    Thanks for any insight..

IC Diamond is a good option as long as it's done right. I ended up having to repaste my system even though I ordered it with IC Diamond because it wasn't done right. Really easy and quick to do. Cost you $7 for a tube, $1 for bottle of rubbing alcohol and $0.50 for paper towel compared with the $40 upgrade. The copper heatsinks really don't help much, maybe a couple C at best. Plus you can buy the heatsinks they use for $7 for pack of 8 on Amazon and put them on yourself if you really want to do it. In some cases (haven't testing the 9370) it can actually increase temperatures if airflow isn't good. In any case cooling of this beast I found sufficient.

Only get Bluetooth if you need it. Otherwise stick with the Killer NIC 1103 or better yet save a few bucks and get the Intel 6300. Really no noticeable difference, but get whatever you're comfortable with.

Can you point me to a link with the type of heatsinks they use?

    They are little RAM heatsinks.

The killers offer great performance, although the Centrino WiFi cards are pretty good contenders and will save a few bucks. Also, the Killers seem to have some minor driver problems - though I'm not sure if they're prevalent on the 9370s.

It looks like HTWingNut covered all the bases here.
