Does anyone have any comment on the real-life experience of the NP8662's (or a similar model's) portability? I want a very powerful laptop, but I also need to be able to take it to school with me (although not necessarily to class, I don't take notes on my laptop).

Part of the appeal of the NP8662 is that it's 15.4" while still being very powerful... but I'm wondering what experiences folks have had with portability. My last laptop was 14.2" and very portable, and I've never owned a "gaming" laptop before... Any advice, comments, experiences to share?

I take it to school all the time. However, due to its short battery life of 2 hours, I find myself needing to be around a plug if i'm doing any intense work.

Its a portable laptop in the sense its no stress to carry around due to its 15" dimensions. However, I won't say its extremely mobile due to that battery life.

I do here that it goes for over 3 hours in Windows 7, so that is always something to look forward to.

Personally, I lug around my m9750 all the time. I found that if you have a good bag or backpack that is well made it makes pretty much any laptop easy to tote around. My wife also totes her 15.4 inch toshiba around quite a bit and her only real complaint is having to setup and tear down. We both prefer a backpack style laptop bag.

Get a backpack for it and you will be set.

I already have a sturdy Swiss gear which seems to have a perfectly magical place for a laptop. It fit an old 15.4" and the 14.2" I had fine. As long as it's not bad. The battery life blows and I'll have to get used to charging constantly (not to max, of course). Thanks. Any more comments welcome!

Another vote for using a backpack!
I have been using the computer bag my company gives out for free and it is an absolute pain. Computer, charger and mouse, plus work papers, etc. gets really heavy and very uncomfortable. I am still looking for a good day bag though.

Isnt putting 5 kg of weight on your right shoulder unhealthy? Hmmm... I think its better if you put those 5 kg on both shoulders; 2.5 on one shoulder and 2.5 on the other one. For teh americans and brits, 5 kg is about 11 pounds :p

    I use a Swiss Gear 17" backpack.

Yes it is Purlpo. Too much weight carried like that can cause neck and back problems for people. For some reason though, people don't see backpacks as "professional" enough in the business world, so people wear these damn bags!

I use my np5793 in much the same way you're describing. I take it to programming class, and to the library, but not all of my classes. With my targus backpack it's not a very big deal at all. keep in mind the 5793 is a heavy 17", so you should have no problem with a 15.4 notebook. good luck.

As for the extra weight and (supposed) size I found it makes no difference compared to any other fifteen inch notebook I've used to shift about.

I use my system for both work and play. I did buy an extra power cord allowing me to keep one at work and one at home. It's a touch heavier than my old Acer system but I don't find it all that heavy.

I have switched from a backpack to a more standard biefcase style bag. The key features I looked for was an elastic shoulder strap (that "give" makes all the difference IMO), and airport security features.

I got a Targus XL backpack about 3 years ago when I bought my 9750. I have switched to a 9262 and still use the same backpack it is rock solid.

I travel almost every week for work (3 weeks out of the month) and I take 2 planes each way so the backpack gets a lot of use.

Recently I weighed the backpack with my normal traveling load packed up. 25lbs ~12kilos. That kind of weight is much more comfortable on both shoulders.

Yeah I used a fat 17'' inspiron today in class and if you have a backpack designed for laptops it's not bad. Just get a backpack and an extra battery if you want 3hrs or so and you will be set to go!

I don't like the business bags, it's bad for the back and I've seen some guys here break their laptop because the strap broke lol (The bag that comes free when you buy an M860TU form xoticpc) So backpack ftw

Yea, those bags that come free with the laptops are probably used to increase repeat purchases.
