    Hi,

My brother has purchased two M570RU laptops with the following spec...

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/range.html?t=nb&c=all&r=X8N

One of the laptops is for his girlfriend and is total overkill for her, now I've recently purchased an M860TU which has the 9800GTS gpu, so I was wondering if it would be possible to swap my 9800GTS with one of the 8800 GTX gpus... are they the same connections/layout etc?

Can the 8800GTX be clocked to 9800GTS speeds to make it significantly faster and more worth while?

Also my brother was wondering what the best CPU would be that he could stick in the M570RU as it'll come with a T5750.

    Cheers

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

I do not think you need to do anything....

the 8800M GTX is actually faster than the 9800M GTS. ;)

the 8800M GTX is equivalent to the 9800M GT
    - with 96 stream processors

the 9800M GTS is slightly lower spec'ed:
    - with 64 stream processors.

Thanks Gophn, actually I currently have the 9800GTS (in my M860TU) and would like the 8800GTX if it is possible / worthwhile?

    not worth the swap.

you will get about 3-5% performance gain overall.

you can just OC the 9800M GTS and probably outperform the 8800M GTX.

Yeah, I wasn't sure on the actual performance difference between the 9800 GTS and a 8800 GTX/9800GT.

It's actually really hard to find solid benchmarks for the GTS, but it seems that the GTS is already running at 600 MHz, where as the GTX & GT are only on 500MHz which you would think allows greater room for overclocking.

    Anyone overclocked their 9800GTS?

I've got the 9800GTS in mine and with the right driver it overclocks very well. with a good stable overclock i notice a huge jump in the gaming performance

Thanks for the info, can I ask what you use to test for artifacting... I heard that the ATI Tool no longer works with NVidia drivers, what CPU are you running on your machine to get a score of 9786 on 3dmark?

there are many many M860TU owners here with 9800M GTS that OC them.

just dont push the memory clocks too higher since you cannot monitor them specifically.

programs only monitor the GPU temps.

At that store here in Portugal they were selling the 8800m Gtx for almost the same price as the 9800m Gts.....is the 8800m Gtx overclockable?

Nice Buy :) I bought one of these aswell last time they were on offer and its a great piece of kit and was a great price!

The best CPU you can stick in one is the Intel X9000 but if you want to be a bit more conservative I would go for the T9300. Mine came with the T5550 which isn't quite as good as yours and I'm planning to upgrade to the X9000 ASAP.

The X9100 isn't compatible as the X80R is based on the Santa Rosa platform and the X9100 is a Montevena (next gen).

The M860TU is montevina, that's what the T means, the M570TU also supports the x9100, but here we are talking about the M570 RU, which is santa rosa and doesn't support the new gen processors
