Hi basically im trying to connect my latop S/PDIF out to my optical out on my sound system but failing miserably :) . I thought the connection on the port, the black digital outport looks like a standard 3.5mm jack so i got a toslink optical cable with a 3.5 mm head on the top.

I also tried to enable it ofc as it is a realtek digital output.. I have even installed the latest drivers (integrated Realtek ALC883 HD Audio) but ofc its still not working...

The sound system im trying to connect it too is the SC-PT570EB-K DVD Home Cinema

    http://shop.panasonic.co.uk/invt/scpt570ebk

Im not 100% sure if i got the right cable as there are some mentioning of RCA cable but i don't know really what to do next..

    Can someone help me please

    Best regards

    Jimbo1

This has been asked so many times...

The black port is NOT optical SPDIF, it is DIGITAL COAXIAL SPDIF. You need a mono 3.5mm jack to single RCA digital audio cable or a 3.5mm jack to rca converter then a standard digital coaxial lead.

Edit: Except that id looks like your home cinema system doesn't have a coax input so you'll need some kind of converter to get 5.1 out of it.

Interesting, I have not even thought of using the SPDIF to connect to a full-blown sound system. When I get sick of my z cinema I am going to look into this.

@theriko: is this the type of converter you where thinking of?
    Optical to Coaxial
Actually, he probably needs the opposite: Coaxial to Optical

As hyperbolic says, you could get the coax cable and the coax to optical converter and you'd be set.

Have you selected the digital output in the sound configuration?

Right click on speaker icon in system tray -> playback devices, select realtek digital output and configure/set as default

hi so ive been playing with it for a few days and i think my digital out port is damaged... i know my headjack one is it broke last time and i had to send my laptop off which ofc is a pain in the a** . So im wondering is there any good alternative external sound cards?

I wish to not use an express card slot as i use my esata drives through it so i was wondering any good usb external ones?

    i saw this at Amazon;

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sound-Blast...6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1264152786&sr=8-6

    any good ones or alternatives?

yeah that sound blast apparently has alot of issues with users running windows 7... Ive only had a brief research over it but ive seen alot of ppl complain about things like lag bad driver support etc.
