So, my dad is, for some reason, opposed to the thought of buying a Clevo. Mainly because he doesn't know of them, and they're ODM. He wants me to buy a less future-proof HP, Dell, or Gateway. My only other choice would be a Dell Vostro, only because it has up to 4GB RAM.

Anyways. Does anybody know when the M570RU (NP5790) will go down in price? I'll need it down about $150 to convince my dad to let my buy it. I'm assuming around end of August. What are the patterns for notebook price drops?

    Thanks in advance.

Well, I highly doubt there should be a price change because, the M570RU just came out, if anything Sager might released some promotions, but I think those are for pre-order and to finish off the last batch.

What is your configuration for you 570RU? Grand Total? From where? Maybe we can help you fit it into your budget.

If you wait until September, a price drop on Intel's mobile CPUs is very likely to happen.

The price will likely to go up soon on the special configuration when it is discontinued by Sager. The Special Package is a promotion going for the time being.

    Try rjtech.com and newegg

Despite message board marketing thats about the best option I've found for price. Obviously if dealing with components scares you DO NOT go this route and from the sound of it your dad might be a bit ignorant to the idea :(

    best of luck!

My Dad has the same mentality to the point he was going to offer me a £330 Turion for uni, when he knows I plan to game like heck.

I think US customers will be far better off then us UK people as I don't see a price drop any time soon.

Alright, well, ever since I found RJTech on BBB with an AAA rating, and on ResellerRatings with 9.44, I kinda swayed him over :)

I'm doing RJTech. I'm torn between 1920x1200 and 1680x1050. I made a post in the graphics section of the forums, requesting some videos of blah blah blah etc. Go read it and see if you can help me out.

I got 1GB RAM off of NewEgg, $47. OCZ 667MHz. Bluetooth+802.11N, $45. 80GB 5400RPM HDD, $70. Screen: Glossy WUXGA $195, or the lower res $95. Total without processor comes out at like $1690. And I'm not too spooked about dealing with the hardware. I quite prefer it.

Now I need a processor. I have friends at Intel, but apparently the Santa Rosa processors aren't yet up for sale. Can a normal Merom fit into the socket? I think not, but I'm double-checking with you guys :)

About the price increase, what do you mean "special promotion from Sager"? I'm getting the ODM, a barebones Clevo. Would this promotion thing affect me, since I'm not really doing any dealing with Sager?

The Santa Rosa platform uses "Socket P" Core 2 Duo's (Merom).... not the old Merom's using the "Socket M" (Napa platform).

Here is a Socket P T7300 from Newegg:

As for best memory deals, go to RAM Deals thread on NBR :D

Sager's promotions are through them only.... as for RJtech, they actually do not get their barebones directly from Clevo.... rather they get it through Sager. :)

I'd go with the smaller res personally cause it will be a lot less demanding on the system and your eyes but thats just a preference thing. I couldnt really find a 1920x1200 res notebook screen at a B&M but I did see the other resolution and I liked it just fine.

1920x1200 is like just barely not toooo small on my 24" screen, I can only imagine it on on a screen 7" smaller and "super glossy".

I'd wait it out on the proc if you can get hooked up by your friends. It was a little while ago but I believe employee's(only blue badge though) get about %50 off procs which if your aiming for king of the hill will be a colossal savings. If your gonna get anything other then the latest and greatest from intel I'd say the savings might not be worth the wait, check into it :)

Right, I opted for the 1680x1050 screen, and a 1.8GHz processor. I suppose that on a 17" screen, the resolution doesn't really matter much. But I was going to use a projector... oh well.

As for the processor: that costs $220 right now. Brings my total for the computer up to $1864, $1900 if you include the RAM I got from NewEgg. I'm thinking to keep this as long as I need, and when it gets too slow, OC it. If it's too slow even then, sell it on eBay for $70 and get a 50% off processor from my buddy at Intel. Or, if it lasts me four years, I won't get a new processor, rather a new computer. Does that sound like a good idea? Or not really? Because, to be honest, I'm not all that into waiting until September for a new computer. And with the price increases and all....
