I have a Sager 5791 (Clevo m570ru) and i've been looking to upgrade my cpu i currently have a t7700 and was looking towards a x7800 or x7900, but before i make a purchase i would like to know what would work, do penryns work if i have the newest bios, and if so what models would work.

I think that all "penryn" 45nm work with your Clevo..

The 5791 will only support up to the x7900, but the x7 series run very hot, so I would not recommend it, basically any 7xxx series processor should be fine

Would it be possible to get the upgraded cpu heatsink and chassis bottom, from the 5793. This would help with the heat. But sager is telling my mine wont support x7 series.

I think resellers always say that. When i ask mine they also said not supported, but i tried myself and it works no problem......

I had an x7800 in my 5791, but it ran quite hot even with the K|N cooling mods, I really wouldn't recommend it in a stock system.

The x7 series were higher tdp than the x9 series (not 45nm) so the chassis/heatsink was redesigned to accomodate them, but then intels next gen chips ran cooler, so the chassis mods weren't really necessary for them...

Now you mention it, yeah, any SR processor should be fine, even an x9000, I was getting confused...I would even recommend an x9000 over the x7 series, as the x9000 is cooler
