    Hello,

I have my M570RU now for a week and had no problems with installing Vista32 and drivers etc. All went perfect. But a few times the system crasht with a power off without any error.

It happened in the following occasions:

    - Startup Colin McRae Dirt (first item after install)
    - Colin McRae just after 15 secons in play (maybe settings were too high?)
    - During testing with 3DMark2006 (f I remember wel during CPU testing)

could it be the video drivers? could it be Vista comaptibilty issues?

    specs:
    -T7300
    -NVIDIA Go 8700 G MT
    - 2048 RAM
    - 200 GB@7200

    look at the Event Log

it should tell you what might have occurred during those times of crashes (in System or Software)

coult not getting anything specific from the event log. Only a unexpected shutdown. But I also saw some disk errors, but they dont come anymore and were not time -related to the shutdown:

It has id7 : bad block in device : \device\harddisk1\DR2 and DR1. And only occured on august 25 and 26 several times at the same timestamp

nope nothin, Tonight I had again a crash. Just after starting up a freshly installed "Bioshock" . Eventlog only said that the last shutdown was unexpected.

During install of BioShock I got the message that I should update my video driver but the latest NVIDIA Forceware does not support the GO 8700 M GT. I got the latest driver on the driver cd, which is the same as currently on the clevo site. I am guessing that the issue has to do with graphics, but am not sure... Which is the most current driver for the 8700 and where can i get it?

You can try the 163.44 drivers from laptopvideo2go. The demo still crashed on me, but it didn't take down my computer anymore. Be sure to install the driver in safemode after uninstalling your current graphics card driver.

They are the best drivers I've used so far in any case... since they updated the modified INF.

Could it be overheating? That's what my first one was doing. I installed software to check the temps and it was overheating and shutting down.

I tried but also the modded inf does not support the 8700 M GT

I can't imagine as it also happens just after booting up. What do you use to measure temp?

it seems to be a bit better when I turn the resolution down of Vista before starting BioShock, but even at 1024 I got a crash after about 10-15 minutes of in game...

maybe indeed temperature, but it never crashed with regular webbrowsing or something

Okay got it solved now and I think it is important too mention. When I asked my dealer they said they had already 2 other systems with the same issue. It could be repaired via instructions I got via phone. It was very simple and a stupid mistake of the assembly. Probably more systems might have this issue. So what is it:

In the assembly they forgot to remove the protectionfoil between the heatsink and the CPU!!!!! After removing this label and put the heatsink back (very simple handling) the temperature was way lower when idling (45 i.s.o. 65) and with a stress test on both cores with Intel TAT to 200% temp did not went higher then 80. And before it went to 100 within 1 minute!!!!!!!

So I guess anyone who has similar problem should check this issue!!

I had a strange sudden power off too yesterday. Probably (and hopefully) it's not related to the CPU temps. Here is what happened and what I did:

    - Turned notebook on
    - Battery was on 20%
    - High performance setting (vista 64bit)
    - Started 3dMark06

After one minute 3dMark the notebook shut off without any warning. Could not turn power back on, but immediately plugged the AC in and the notebook started up again. I got no error report whatsoever. Immediately after logging in the resolution changed from 1920x1200 to 1280x1024 (the 3dMark setting I had). Kind of strange..

    Checked temps with PCWizard 2008:
    - idle: around 37-40 C
    - after half an hour working an running 3dMark again: 50 C

Was it a battery/power related problem perhaps? Or did the video driver cause a problem (because the resolution changed after logging in).

Only thing I could find in the vista event log was the following:

    Fault bucket 13033855, type 5
    Naam van gebeurtenis: RADAR_PRE_LEAK_WOW64
    Antwoord: Geen
    Id van CAB-bestand: 0

    Handtekening van probleem:
    P1: 3DMark06.exe
    P2: 1.1.0.0
    P3: 6.0.6000.2.0.0

    P8:
    P9:
    P10:

    Ingevoegde bestanden:
    C:\Users\Ralph\AppData\Local\Temp\RDR8381.tmp\empty.txt

I use the 163.69 driver for the GPU (from laptopvideo2go)

Hope you have any ideas. Notebook hasn't turned itself off since..

Jahoe before I read your last post that is exactly what I was thining. Your computer was shutting off because of stress on the cpu, which prolly meant cpu overheating. Good to know your problem has been resolved.

Ralph, it sounds like you probably have the same problem. I would be willing to bet your CPU is overheating due to that foil between the cpu and heatsink. A cpu will heat up rather quickly with that foil in between the two, and you putting your laptop under load like that (3dmark, hardware demanding games) is what's causing it to reach the shutdown point. I would recommend you look into your problem soon. If it truly is a piece of foil like it was with jahoe, prolonged use of the laptop in that condition may cause permanent damage.

EDIT:and now that i finished reading your post, yeah your battery could have died too lol. just watch for it to shut off again. And I dont think a video driver issue would shut the computer down. If anything, it would reboot the computer.

Well I tried REALLY hard to stress the cpu, never goes beyond 55 degrees C if I have to believe PCWizard 2008. Idle is still under 40 degrees C. Played with it for over 3 hours, running 3dmark several times, grabit, quickpar etc. Never shut down again. I don't get it. Think I will try a CPU stress test tomorrow (intel TAT I believe?) and monitor the temperature.

But then again, it could have just been the battery that died.. Only one thing that was strange too. The notebook shut off, I plugged AC in, it started up immediately, but when I looked at the battery meter it was somewhere between 10 and 15% and not completely empty... Can it be that the M570RU can't be stressed (use the high performance setting) when under ~20% battery? I'll try that tomorrow too I guess.

i have seen cases though where once a cpu has been thermalled and stressed out a few times.. it can cause irreversable damage to it.. not saying this is your case but ive seen it a bunce of times from people that didnt properly apply or didnt know enough to apply thrermal paste.. ive repaired tons of systems..

again doubt its the case but those that recieved these may want to check for that plastic sheet to make sure its been removed..
