buy some 1.5mm copper shims from ebay, I replaced the pads on my 8800m gtx and it halfed the idle temp. Btw the m570ru can take 8gb as I recently added 2 x 4gb 667 dimms.

as far as I know you can't at the moment, but you could always edit the 3700M bios to 280 clock speeds.

You can usually flash a fx 3700m to the gtx 280m if you have a later ...10 VBIOS version on the sticker (if your card was released with that VBIOS) I've done it to a few cards.
The .05 VBIOS cards cannot be flashed.
Its really a toss up as to whether they will actually be stable at the 280m clockspeeds however, it varies.

P.S. Can I buy from you your 8700m GT? I need that particular card for something. Thanks.

If you flash the 3700M to 280M on the M570RU, you will have 30 seconds of beeping every time you start your laptop and it won't run at 3D clock speeds.

Just OC the card to whatever is stable and modify the driver inf file to install as a 280M.

    Hey !
My 8800m gtx on my m570ru seems to be broken - the system randomly freezes while displaying a red screen (not the windoze »red screen«, just red) with the capslock and numlock led's flashing. But only when utilizing d3d/opengl.

Now i am looking for an effordable replacement and - since an 8800m gtx just has an insane pricetag atm - it does not need to be that fast as before …

    @niffcreature:
These FX2700 you're selling at eBay (given you are actually the seller), - might they allready do it for a m570ru originally shipped with an 8800 gtx ?

(sorry for hijacking this thread, i would use pm if i could … ;)

I am not the seller. I just think its a particularly good card for the price. They can be found from many sellers on Ebay for around 100$.
I think it would work BUT you have to make sure to not get a 'QUAL SAMPLE'. I have one and it does not work on my m570tu.

There is a 35mhz core speed difference and 88mhz shader speed difference between the gtx 280m and 3700m clockspeeds. Otherwise there is no difference. even with an actual gtx 280m the only change is the 55nm instead of 65nm fabrication process.

Theres no difference between those 2.

There are 2 part numbers for the HP fx 3700m, one is the 488125-001, the other I cant remember. 460734-001 however is not the part number, it is the assembly number, so both of the other fx 3700m with their 2 part numbers will have that assembly number too.

    Hi All,

I managed to brake my 8700m card on my M570ru by over clocking it.(yes I am an idiot).
when it boots it looks like I am playing pacman and cannot even load windows unless I use safe mode.

I am now looking for the best replacement card and after some research I believe it is the 3700m correct me if I am wrong, but can only find US suppliers.

Can anyone tell me if there is somewhere in the uk where I can get one for a decent price and one that will let me change the BIOS to be like a 280.

Also if someone has done this before on a m570ru, do I just need to replace the card or do I need to buy anything else like heatskins etc.(the last thing I want is to buy a new card an brake it) :)

    Many Thanks guys.

You will need some thermal pads otherwise it is plug and play. Whatever is on the 8700m GT might work but its nice to get new pads.

If you flash the BIOS to a 280m then it will not work in your system. You will get 30 more seconds added to boot time and more issues. There is no reason to flash to a 280m on these cards, the performance is the same either way.

Here is a seller that ships worldwide HP nVidia Quadro FX 3700M 1 GB Video Card NEW NB9E-GLM3 - eBay (item 230576221057 end time Jan-29-11 11:54:40 PST)

watch out, I might buy them all for like 10 grand and make like 20 grand flashing them all to gtx 280m

Not all of the 800mhz ones do, besides its just a sticker.
You're right though, I just found one that will overclock way better flashed to gtx 280m.
Some of them wont pass 560mhz core tho.

The lenovo cards always seem to run stable at at least 600/1500 for me, and thats at normal voltage, if you're crazy you can take it to 1.06v which the HP cards wont do.

Having read through this thread re: FX3700M cards working without modification in the M570RU, I am encouraged that my M571RU can be resurrected from it's current "paperweight" status. After the original 8800M-GTX died and finding no 8800M-GTX for sale anywhere at the time, I bought a "new" 9800M-GT that supposedly came direct from Alienware, in the hope I could flash it with a 8800M-GTX bios, (given the similar architecture). However, I just get the 30 seconds worth of beeps then immediate shut down, so I can't even get at it! Someone mentioned that the Alienware BIOS is a particular problem? I live in England but I'm visiting family in the USA in April so I'm tempted to buy a 3700M whilst I'm over there, but, as I've laid out $475 already, before I spend any more, can somebody tell me... is my 9800MGT a lost cause? Would someone with a 9800MGT friendly laptop be prepared to flash my card with a 8800MGTX bios for me, or is there anything I can do myself? Any help will be much appreciated... cheers.

Finally the card has arrived last week Friday. Installed in, and BANG! Black screen after windows logo without any cursors! but got into the desktop no freezing........yet again. I noticed before my 8800m gtx died, the last state with blue screen was my laptop connected to an external monitor. My solution was to reinstall the windows and POOFFF it works!!! So I guess there was an error on the driver that organizes the addressing of TV out, and reinstalling the driver does not touch the .dlls.

Modifying the NVDISP.inf doesn't seem to work for me. Not even the card name changed after installing. :( Is there a guide somewhere around? Tried googling with no luck. Or, if someone has got the inf files working, please upload them here with the particular driver version?
    Thank you,
    Rudy

Thanks for the links MH... interesting, yet depressing stuff. :( Being at a dead end with the 9800M-GT, I had contemplated selling it, and despite what it cost, as long as it achieved enough to cover all or most of the cost of a FX 3700M, I'd be happy. However, I now have doubts it would sell, or for much anyway?

    As soon as I power up my M571RU with this card installed, the 30 seconds worth of beeps commence and the countdown timer is displayed. A second beep of a slightly different frequency and pitch cuts in after about 15 seconds, then when countdown reaches zero, the laptop shuts down. What concerns me most is that; during the countdown, the display is littered with random coloured squares and random characters (on black background), though it is possible to make out most of the following message;
"ERROR: MXM Structure not found or invalid.
Reflash MXM ROM or add MXM Structure and associated callbacks to SBIOS!
POST will be halted for 30 seconds and performance will be limited to
balanced performance mode until this is resolved..." (I Googled to find the full message).
Unless yourself or someone else has witnessed a wrong BIOS produce these symptoms, the artefacts suggest to me, and as was suggested in the links; that the card memory is duff, so, I've concluded that I've probably been scammed! I guess the acid test would be to try it in a laptop the 9800M-GTwas designed for which I presume is an Alienware M17X? But that option isn't available to me. Under the circumstances, the hardware route would appear to be a pointless venture, even if I had the confidence to do it... Not happy! :(

You will see then on ebay for $600, but those dont really sell (I dont think).

Geez 28 offers, and all declined! They are not one of the friendly seller anyway.

Bought a 9800M GTS from them, with black screen issue, I sent an email to them like everyday without a single response, but finally after a week, this is what I received:
E***com Team Leader: Can one of you help this customer please.
E***com Support: Hi sorry for the late response, Are you still struggling with this issue?
Me: don't bother with it, I got my refund.

yea, it was a complete refund. LOL

$200? ...what, even considering I have no proof this card even works other than the words of the guy I bought it from?

I'd love to discover that my criticism of him was misplaced, as his track record\credentials do instill a degree of confidence, so maybe it is just an Alienware vbios issue?

This is one of his recent offerings, with wording almost identical to that he used to advertise the 9800M-GT I bought from him last April.

I bought my laptop from him.

In general its a bad idea to buy anything if you can't fully test it within 30 days.
I didn't have a good experience with him, he left out a few parts and the heatsink was scratched up. However, he didn't completely try to scam me.

Sell it for 300$. If its actually broken which I don't think it is then you can give the buyer a refund.
300$ is a pretty normal price for one of these in my opinion.

I've read all the thread... I would like to replace my 9800M GT with something more powerful to help a little bit in Crysis2 :)
So 1. is it sure that FX3700M will work without beeping all around in a M570RU ??
    2. With wich bios version??
    3. Any problem with the metal plate that is present on the rear side of the cards on ebay that you are linking ??
    4. Those metal pads are meant to be placed over the vram with some paste on it ??
    5. Wich would be a right price for my 8800M GTX (vbios flashed 9800M GT) in order to sell it quickly ?? ( I'm presuming that 600$ for this card is out of market :) )
    6. Wich of the vendor probably would accept more or less 100$ ??

    Thanks,
and sorry for the number of questions :)

Just installed a 3700m, from Alantech, 8GB of ram, a T9300 cpu, and upgraded to Win 7. Everything running without a hitch, so far. Idle temps around 40, used IC Diamond. Just installed first game, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, will post some temps later.

Ran Vantage once, with a score of 5905,not sure if that's good or not, using the latest Nvidia drivers, no over-clock.

I have just received my 3700M a week ago.
    1. It works perfectly without beeping if you do not flash it to 280M bios.
    2. (See no. 1) The one that can be flashed to 280M has got version .10 on the back of the card but will give you the beep.
    3. Yes, if you do not pull it off, it won't fit to the card's case (M570RU).
    4. Hmm, not sure, but my card has no problem with it being removed.
    5. eBay?
    6. not sure... :(

I left existing pads on inside of copper case, the old card, 9800gts, came out of. Drilled fixed nuts, 4 in all, out of copper case, did "No" modification to new card new and it fit perfectly, installed more thermal padding around die, and used ic diamond thermal compound. All in all , took about 2 hours to replace, gpu, cpu, ram and of course cleaning heat sink vents and entire pc.

Question here -> Vantage score of 5905..........good? bad? indifferent ?

@rdalev You have to look at your GPU score only.. over 5000 (maybe 5400) should be fine ;)

when the results of the bench are displayed it is shown as some kind of summary if I don't mistake of a GPU Score (left side) and CPU score (right side).
You could read only the "GPU score" :)

I am about to buy it..
anything I have to know ?? It does really perform better for 145 bucks or not ???

For some reason, I got this message, "Your result has the following problem(s) and will not be shown for example on leaderboards: The physics score is invalid. PhysX GPU acceleration used, Graphics card is not recognized. (What is this?)" !

Don't quite understand, because further down, on my Vantage chart, it shows my gpu as a 3700m !

Haven't had a chance to really push this card too much and all I can tell you is I started with a 9800m GTS :

    Pipelines 64 - unified
    Core Speed * 600 MHz
    Shader Speed * 1500 MHz
    Memory Speed * 800 MHz
    Memory Bus Width 256 Bit
    Memory Type GDDR3
Max. Amount of Memory 1024 MB
    Shared Memory no
    DirectX DirectX 10, Shader 4.0
    Current Consumption 75 Watt
    Transistors 504 Million
    technology 55 / 65 nm
    Features PureVideo HD, HybridPower,
    Notebook Size large
    Date of Announcement 15.07.2008
    Information MXM 3

And went to the 3700m :

    Pipelines 128 - unified
    Core Speed * 550 MHz
    Shader Speed * 1375 MHz
    Memory Speed * 800 MHz
    Memory Bus Width 256 Bit
    Memory Type GDDR3
Max. Amount of Memory 1024 MB
    Shared Memory no
    DirectX DirectX 10, Shader 4.0
    Current Consumption 75 Watt
    Transistors 754 Million
    technology 65 nm
Features OpenGL 2.1, CUDA, PowerMizer 8.0
    Notebook Size large
    Date of Announcement 14.08.2008

So far everything is working flawlessly.

Will probably purchase Vantage and run again !

I just bought the quadro FX3700M from Alantech 144$ shipped to Italy.

Now I would like to know
    1. Are the thermal pads on vram from my 9800M GT still efficient?? is there any way to see if they're still doing their job? If not..
    2. Wich pads do I have to buy?? those copper 1.5mm shims would be ok??
    3. What concerning drivers?? Is enough to modify the string "NVIDIA GeForce 280M GTX" and change the sectionID installer ??

Anyone with these cards have OCed it yet??

    thanks
