Hi all,
I decided to open this thread for the pioneers of this "mod".
I haven't done it yet, but I'm studying it.
First of all, it seems ,from first overview, that this CAN be done.
Obviously the mean object is the motherboard wich needs to be upgraded.
On the M570ETU mobo something changed (like the CPU fix method, position of some small connectors, position of wlan & turbo memory, add of HDMI and eSATA ports) but seeing from Service manual, there is nothing to really worry about in this part.
Only HDMI port is located in the position of S-VIdeo : making the hole larger will solve the problem..
COM port was removed so the hole need to be covered.
The real problem is compatibility of hardware pieces in M570RU with new mobo..
1.I noticed that ETU webcam drivers are not comprensive of STK-1135 webcam drivers and this could be a problem..
2.I didn't find anywhere bluetooth driver for ETU, so I really don't know if RU model will work..
3.Modem should work..
4.Touchpad should work, but there are different driver version.
5.CIR IR is the same.
6.Fingerprint should work, different driver version.
7.WLAN should work but I really don't have prooves of it (4965 vs 5300 Intel)
8.Robson should work but if it doesn't work, noone will miss it ! lol
9.RAM needs upgrade to 204 pin
10.Optical drive needs upgrade to SATA one
11.CPU..seems that a X9000 could work @ 800Mhz of FSB (infos appreciated)
Other things are integrated
So, if anyone has some info about for example HW ids of these pieces, his help will be appreciated!
I think that with the professional help of this community, we can make it real.
If any vendor could spend some words about these doubts could be great!
Thanks

1. The webcam is simply usb, so should work fine, use the ru drivers.
2. I'm pretty sure the bluetooth module is generic, so should work.
3. Should do
4. yup
5. yup
6. yup, use newer driver, I do
7. wireless will work
8. should work
9. Need new ddr3 ram, old ram will not work/fit
10. need new ODD
11. unsure... -
1.right..but where is the webcam connector on mobo??
2.I've heard of an italian guy having problems installing a generic bluetooth module in M570RU..It fits but it isn't recognized..
11.zfactor said that only 45nm penryn could work on montevina, but he didn't tell me if he tried it..
What about new "montevina plus" CPU?? they seems to be penryn-based quad with HT and will reach 3.06 Ghz...there would be another new chipset??! hope not, otherwise all this mod will be "trash" ! -
Also the CPU heatsink has changed from 3 to 4 holes..so we need to buy a new one and it will cost (proportionally) a lot !!
-
You would be better off selling your old one and buying the new one, since the price has plummeted , just look at the 5797 with the GTX 280m
-
mobo + heatsink will cost about 330, RAM will cost about 50, blu-ray drive (instead of buying another DVD SATA one..) will cost about 110..
A total of 500 not including CPU..
I could resell DDR2 RAM for about 40 and the DVD ATAPI optical for about 20..
so if everything goes right I'll spend about 440..
Not considering the fact that I surely will upgrade the videocard with a 4870 or a 280M, and it will cost! (however I could sell the 9800M GT as spare part..)
I don't know how much could I take from my M570RU, but I don't think that I could spend less than doing thid mod.. -
I had a look over the CPU heatsink..
it seems possible to modify the RU one adding a plate with 2 holes over the "peak" (because it is triangular).
The problem is that we have to make it perfectly in thickness and position of holes, otherwise pressure over CPU will not be uniform.. -
Can you tell me where i can buy the mobo?
my 570RU could use a new one -
from a clevo reseller near to you!! ask for it
-
Any clevo reseller or retailer should have them.
-
i agree personally for the price i would sell and buy new. the price of pre-order on these is pretty great..
oile the older santa rosa chips should work fine but they may have a few issues. they may not show temps, may be shown as a different model cpu then they are and in some case they may not work period. if you have aretail chip you should be okay minus maybe the temps (they changed the temp sensors in the 45 chips) but with es or qs chips a lot could be determined on the microcode of the actual chip is reading as and if the bios will accept that.
i actually miss my 570.. -
It is a QS174 ES X9000...
...this is a very very bad news...
Maybe I'm missing something about the price drop in selling-buying new one...could you explain me?
Thanks a lot -
Wow! this mod seems awesome!!
the prob here(where i live) is that ppl are not interested in gaming laptops! and selling mine isn't possible + i literally love it and can't part with it no matter what!
So, i thought might as well upgrade it! -
Yes...I love it also...
but we have to be sure that every single aspect will work fine with this mod...
If not, there is a true risk of spending a lot of more money...
For example now I have been told that the sony BC-5600S wich I would buy, will not be fittable in M570(T)U without cutting an edge in the frontplate!! why it cannot be changed??!!
Then I am scared of a "montevina plus" platform at beginning of April: maybe they will add some other modifications to M570ETU mobo, or maybe another new chipset!!
However even if I have to buy a QX9300, this mod is preferrable to a new buy. -
-
With little to none performance difference, I don't know why would you want to spend that kind of money. New cpu, new ram........
-
for quads, new video cards support, HDMI with audio ( I need it!), esata maybe ?
-
The NP8660 with the GTX260M is ~1400$ now...
-
cuz then i'd have 2 notebooks then! and i'd hate to see the older one not being used anymore
I also got a Seagate 1TB ext drive with e-SATA(+USB) but unfortunately no other option except to run it off USB!
+ a HDMI port would be awesome. I would be able to output FullHD movies along with sound on my TV too! -
I am scared about "montevina plus"...now Clevo has a 17" portable (M570ETU), 18" (m98nU) and a 17" monster (D900F)...when new cards like 300M GTX will come out, maybe they'll update again the M570XU chassis with MXM 3.0 and/or new chipsets... -
I think M57 chassis will not be used in the future any more. There should be a new design.
-
I think the M57*-chassis will still be used quite a while. It has excelent termal design and everything seems to work very good with it...Only thing I can complain about is the noise from the fans...sounds like a freaking jet engine is next to me when I play GTA IV lol
-
-
From past experiences, Clevo seems to like their (17") M570 line ever since the Pentium M.
M570A and M570U used the same chassis
M570RU and M570TU used the same chassis
Clevo might just stick with the current chassis since it has shown very good feedback for exterior design as well as thermal design. -
Ah...I didn't know it!!
so this is not the first time! and time ago anyone tried to change mobo in M570A?? -
If the barebone chassis of M570RU and TU are the same structurally,(except the e-sata nd HDMI port spaces) then there shouldn't be any probs in throwing a new mobo in there!
i hope they are the same internally! -
Yes..it seems that plastics didn't change, some connectors are a little displaced but I think...no problems
-
Have you calculated the price? The full mod will probably cost almost the same as buying a new one.
-
Buying a new one in Italy where I live it will cost a looot more!! consider that M570ETU + 280M is available only on mycizmo wich have crazy prices!
It will cost about
320€ mobo
50€ram
90€bluray sata
420€ CPU
127€ 7200.4
but I can resell RAM ODD and CPU for a total of 400€ -
you forgot about the most expensive part - GTX 280M
Why not buy from Xotic? I am sure they'll ship international. -
-
X9100? Maybe Quads?
(10 char) -
qx9300...is it a lot of money but good price in market I think..isn't it?
-
hmm... should be QGNG.
-
yes it is! I don't understand if you mean that it is a good price..
And how much in your opinion I could resell my X9000 QS174 ?
because Zfactor warned me about santarosa CPUs in Montevina.. -
Whoa! i was looking for QX9300 nd its available for $900!!!
-
the OEM-retail one...
-
Dunno! i guess it was oem one! i gotta look for one on e-bay or some resellers!
btw found some info 4 u!! - http://news.softpedia.com/news/Intel-039-s-QX9300-Mobile-CPU-Goes-3-7GHz-96196.shtml
EDIT -
Whoa thats great! $1038! WTH - http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_2/Intel-Core%202%20Extreme%20Mobile%20QX9300%20AW80581ZH061003.html
EDIT 2 -
OMG! HP offering HDX18t with a QX9300 for $1500!!! - http://www.lancelhoff.com/hp-hdx18t-qx9300-supercharged-notebook/
Thats like rest of the notebook for $500! -
Hmm, I heard ATi is releasing a new notebook graphics card the 6th of April, called 4890. They say it has up to 20% performance increase over the previous 4870. That means it'll most likely beat the 280M GTX and it'll probably be much cheaper (since it's ATI, they are always cheap).
Oh and BTW oile, why buy the QX9300? It's very expensive, almost $900. You can get a ES Q9100 for only 200$ now on ebay. It only has 300mhz lower clock speed than the QX9300... -
unlocked multiplier !!! 2.93Ghz QUAD monster!
However I think that with montevina plus Intel will launch a extrem quad with a freq of 2.7-2.8 and unlocked multi to reach 3.5 Ghz easly...so I don't know
The 4890 will be desktop card!! maybe we will see it at the end of 2009 mobile!! -
I'm pretty sure that with some patience, the makers of SetFSB will implement support for software overclocking the Q9100/Q9000 also...
-
SetFSB is only related with PLL, not CPU itself....
-
-
The CPU heatsink seems to cost 20€ net from CLevo!!
I think I'll mod the triangular RU one if I can.. -
Only 20€? I'm ordering it right away...time to upgrade!
-
Ordering what? mobo+all the pieces??
good..I'm going to do it after my exams.. -
Ordering mobo, CPU, RAM, new optical drive and a Q9x00 CPU basically
The pound is very weak at the moment, so I'll order from the UK...
-
from who exactly?
I sent an email to neil@kobalt but didn't answer me! -
one quick question can i upgrade mine to the latest GPU which is the GTX 280M???? i got the NP5797 (recently bought, my old one was NP5796) is it possible!?!?!? can there be miracle!?!?!?
-
sure you can!! once there will be a bios compatible and it will be out with the card!
