Anyone knows if there are limitations on what kind of minicards these slots can take? Because on the motherboard it clearly states "ROBSON" or "TV-TUNER CARD" below the minicard slots.

I am curious as if it supports any other minicards, like say, an eSATA minicard adapter or the likes.

    Thanks.

There are 2 types of mini-card slots in a Clevo motherboard. Although they look like each other physically, but electronically one has a USB interface and the other has a PCIe interface. and these electronic interfaces are not inter-compatible. The TV Tuner slot is normally with a USB interface, the WLAN with a PCIe and the ROBSON i'm not familiar with because no need for it with Linux. So just be sure about which interface your card is.

But the connectors are all PCIe-type connectors? Doesnt really make sense to use an USB interface over a PCIe-connector, because that leaves LOTS of pins with nothing to do...But you may be right, i dunno lol

Well, the best way is to try. Switch between the WLAN and the TV Tuner cards and tell us if they work ?

Clevo's specs state clearly that Pketan is right about the slots.

    Slots

    One Express card (54/34) slot

    Two Mini Card slots
    - 1st for WLAN half size Mini Card with PCIe interface
    - (Factory Option) 2nd for UMTS/HSPA 3.75G half size Mini Card with USB interface

It should not work if you swap them but I've never tried.

Pkhetan, out of curiosity, is there any risk of damaging the cards or motherboard if you swap them?

Cookie, which card were you thinking of getting for your system?

It is standard procedure for laptops to have some mini-pcie's wired for USB and some for pcie.

There is no risk of damaging the motherboard since it is the electrical source. For the card, theoretically there is a risk, but in my experience the worst is the card will not be recognized.

NovaH, I were thinking of getting a TV-tuner card. I have no idea if these use PCIe or USB. On some cards it says PCIe, on some it says nothing. And I've not seen one yet that states it has USB over PCIe. So I'm a bit confused.

Guess I can buy the original Clevo card meant to be there, but it's pretty bad compared to some of the newer cards available.

Then again I have no idea about the DVT-X/analog/digital stuff. I'm in Norway and I know we have analog still, but also some digital crap which I don't know what's called...

In my oppinion, don't waste too much time hunting down a mini card usb tuner. Just can get yourself a decent external USB or expresscard tuner. There are quite a few on the market now with decent quality that are hybrid analog/digital.

and the DVB-x stuff is mainly this:
DVB = Digital Video Broadcast and the 2 types are:
DVB-T (Terrestrial - standard aerial stuff)
    DVB-S (Satellite - need a sat dish)
