So I have a great set of Klipsch THX 5.1 speakers which I have been using with my pc tower for quite a few years. Tried to hook them up with the realtek analog inputs on this notebook.

When I insert the green(front), black(rear) and yellow(center/sub) cables into the realtek card I get the appropriate popup wanting to verify if I have plugged in a rear speaker etc.

I then play the 5.1 test and hear the sound played on each of the correct 5 speakers.

However when playing from winamp, itunes etc. I just get music out of the front left and right even though I have selected 5.1 and not stereo in the realtek speaker options.

Any info on how to fix this would be appreciated...Thx!

each of the programs have audio channel mapping usually.... some of the basic audio programs do not have that though.

I think in WinAmp you should be able to select "Realtek Audio" in the Preferences > Plug-ins > Output > DirectSound output.

I usually use Media Player Classic for everything now... since it can custom map all audio channels (up to 9 channels I believe) to any speakers of your choice if the source audio is only 2 channel.

Hey thx for the quick reply. Yeah was just looking for that virtual type effect for my 2-channel stuff but after looking again in the realtek control panel I managed to find the 'speaker fill' which I had missed.
