Hello,
In my previous what notebook should I buy thread I was advised by a few people to look at the Sager/Clevos, which indeed seemed to fit my intents and purposes in a laptop (3d/multimedia/video editing workstation, + some gaming on the side).
After much deliberation, I settled on the 570RU/NP5790 and decided to order from Eurocom (Clevo reseller based in Canada) as per Gophn's recommendation. However, when I tried to customize my settings, I noticed that they did not have the advertised Quadro videocard available in the pull-down menu. I contacted their sales department about it and they said they can't fit the Quadro FX2500M in the 570RU due to compatibility issues (is this true?), and that the advertised Quadro FX3500M had been delayed until mid to late September. This is a big problem as I am leaving the country early September and I wanted the notebook before then.
The alternative they suggested is the 570U (NP5760), which was also one of the recommendations suggested in my original thread. However, I am not sure if I want to go with a model that is one year old at this point, as that is a long time in computer terms. I am concerned about the older chip platform but also about build quality and durability of the actual notebook. I also have to admit the built-in fingerprint scanner of the 570RU won me over as well, although I guess that's more of a gimmick.
I have read positive reviews of both notebooks, but they were written at different time periods (the 570U was reviewed around this time last year). I was wondering how the M570U and M570RU would shape against each other TODAY and if anyone can help me make up my mind what to do next. ~_~
Thank you.

I don't see why the Go7950GTX would not work for workstation applications. I will hold my tongue until someone comes in here and says it definitely works (*cough*Gophn*cough*) but I would definitely try to get the M570RU over the M570U. Both are great notebooks, but why not go for the latest technology if it is available?

wow Chaz I think you need to get something for that cough of yours if its calling my name.
Ok, if your are strictly doing 3D Media/Digital Content Creation (DCC) work, then the Quadro 2500M would serve you well... the 3500M is just an overclocked version that gives about 10%-ish more performance. (so I would not hold my breath to get the 3500M)
If you are doing some 3D media and going to do a lot of gaming, then I would go with the 7950GTX.
In either case, the Clevo M570U or M570RU will fit your purposes fine... although the M570RU will be a bit better since it will have more future upgrades (using Santa Rosa platform, tops out at 4gigs RAM, interchangeable MXM videocard).... while the M570U tops out at this moment (Napa platform, tops out at 3gigs of RAM, proprietary videocard that tops out at 7950GTX or Quadro 2500M).

FYI: For why Quadros are expensive:
The Quadros are more expensive for a couple of reasons:
- supposed better support (software and hardware)
-- Nvidia will personally work with you to get around a problem... even to write a custom driver
- designed to accelerate CAD and DCC in workstations with optimizations in OpenGL
1) A unique feature of the Quadro GPUs is to support antialiased lines in
hardware. This has nothing in common with the GeForce full-scene
antialiasing.
- It works for lines, not for shaded polygons, without sacrificing performance or
taking extra video memory for oversampling. Most professional applications
support this feature because it is standardized by OpenGL.
2) On consumer and workstation adapters, OpenGL is used for different purposes:
-- Most common applications for GeForce adapters are full-screen OpenGL games.
-- CAD/DCC/3D applications are working with OpenGL windows, in combination with 2D elements
and so on....
So the Quadros are designed going to perform better in multiple DCC work (windowed or full screen), while the Geforce line may do the same, it lacks some optimizations for windowed 3D work and loses some performance.
It just comes down to your budget, if not strict, then the Quadros are recommended...
if strict than a Geforce will still get the job done (w/ the cost of some performance & quality).
