Hi folks,
I am hoping somebody here has some insight into my problem.
I have a 5760/M570U with a 7950GTX and a 1920x1200 display.
I have the DVI out connected to a Dell 2405FPW. My goal was to be able to play games on the 2405. I had the nvidia set up in clone mode running 1920x1200 on both displays. This was working somewhat using the drivers from Sager (dated 2006). I was having some frame rate issues during games though.
So I set out to find newer drivers. I tried 175.32 a 174 series and currently have 169.04 running. My problem is that the 2405 has a pillarboxed 1600x1200 display despite the fact that I have it set to 1920x1200 in the nvidia control panel. This happens in both clone mode and dualview. The 2405 will pan when the mouse reaches the outerlimits of the screen. This is becoming pretty frustrating. Also while doing the uninstall/driverclean/install new driver process it has worked correctly twice, but goes back to the pillarbox as soon as i reboot. It will work only booting to safe mode, cleaning the drivers, then once I boot back into windows and install the new drivers and set up the displays will it work. As soon as I reboot it is back to the pillarbox pan mode. I have tried all three scaling options in the monitor itself (1:1, stretch, and aspect) and none solve the problem. I also have tried all combinations of scaling in the nvidia control panel (nvidia scaling, nvidia driver, monitor scaling, and no scaling).
So my question is do any of you folks here have any experiance with this? Is there a set of drivers that will make this work. Honestly, I have not gone back to the originals yet, as I hoped there was something slightly newer so as to help with my performance issues with the 2006 Sager released drivers.
I hope it will still work and it was not just a fluke that it worked before if I do have to go back to those.
Thanks in advance for the help. This really has been a great laptop. These forums were very helpful when I made this purchase. I just had to start using it full time because my desktop pc died.

Dont clone if you want good FPS.
Make your external display the Primary Display. -
I have tried that, even going as far as setting up the 2405 as the only display. However after a reboot or standby the monitor setup gets all crazy and the setup just doesn't stick. Also I am still stuck with the pillarboxing when I have attempted to go this route.

I recommend to use the last stable Clevo drivers to test with:
176.02 - _Vista 32-bit
176.02 - _Vista 64-bit
175.95 - _XP 32bit
Also make sure that Power Options is set to disable all Standby options (when lid is closed, after a certain amount of time, etc...)
