i heard that the m570u motherboard limits the ram to 2.8 gb , even with vista, is this true? how long until they release the laptop with a mobo that can handle 4 gb ram?

    The Clevo M570U can have total 4gigs of DDR2 (2 x 2048mb).

Windows XP only sees up to 2.8gigs
Windows Vista will see the 4 gigs.

well XP seems to funs games fine with 2gb of ram.

Vista, for the moment, has performance loss that due to the drivers and the not RAM.

Another thing is that a typical person wont be able to afford to put 4gigs into a notebook due to the huge price tag... about $500 a stick of 2gig DDR2 SO-DIMM.

So at that price, the performance gain would not be worth it at all.

I was thinking only 64 bit Vista could do 4 gigs while 32 bit has to be less than 4 gigs.

well actually all versions of Vista (even Home Basic) supports at least 4gigs

XP 64-bit can support 4 gigs, XP 32-bit can support up to 2.8gigs

What about windows server edition? if people are complaining about vista so much why don't they get any of the other 64 bit OSes?

Server Editions should also be able to support high amounts of RAM.

64-bit OS's are great but does not get a good rep due to a slightly poorer support and updates from 3rd party software programs than that of a 32-bit Windows OS.

If you play games, going 64-bit will require more resources, as I tested with XP x64, but as time goes, there should be a gradual shift to improving performance and support.

I am still using XP 32-bit, and dual booting Vista Ultimate (for testing and to help others that have questions about it)... until there is improved performance and drivers for Vista, I wont be going exclusive.
