    Pretty much the thread topic. I'm going to buy a new HDD and the one i have now is [email protected], now would the drive controller support a xxxxxrpm @ 3.0gbs?

    Its based on the Santa-Rosa platform (ICH8M/M-E), it does support SATA2 or SATA 3.0Gb/s.

    there is no performance hit, so relax.

    EDIT: sorry i read the post wrong. just checked on wiki,
    most of controllers should work with sata2, the just fall back to sata speed. but some don't and require a jumper. I don't know much about southbridge so you better take andy's advice.
