    Hello all,

This is my first time I post here. I really searched hard but couldn't find the right answers on the forum. I'm dutch so pardon my English.

My machine: M-Tech d900k (Alienware m7700) with 7800 gtx and 2 gig internal. Vista ultra. Bought it a couple of weeks ago on ebay. Since then I gave it a thorough clean plus some new silver paste for both heat sinks.

    Ok, here it comes:

    • Prob. 1 Not the most terrible one, but every once in a while after closing ad opening my laptop while it's still turned on, all my icons appear in the left upper corner of the desktop. It is like the laptop resetted to a small resolutoin (800 by 600) before returning to the normal resolution (1920 by 1200) so rearranging my icons to fit this small resolution.

It even happens that the screen doesn't come on at all after opening (unable to reset videocard?).

    • Prob. 2 When I try to attach my laptop to my HDTV my graphicscard starts flipping. It shows an identical copy of the laptopscreen on the TV but with some horizontal lines in very happy colourfull colours on both screens. Some seconds later the compu freezes and needs to be restarted. I can't really do much in those couple of seconds. This happens in all possible ways, when I start the laptop when connected to the tv, or when I plug in the tv later.

    • Prob. 3 Startup time of the laptop is actually very acceptable, but shutdown takes several minutes and gives about 30% of the time a BSOD (so the laptop restarts in stead of shutting down). Can't really tell what the BSOD is about, I'm at the office now. Most of the times it performes a physical memory dump, does this indicate faulty internal memory? Speaking of which, will the 7700 take 4 gig of internal memory? I believe there are 2 gig sticks on the market now, so space isn't an issue.

    • Prob. 4 It randomly BSOD's on me. No heat motive, sometimes during downloading (java application, I know, I know) and sometimes during idling. In most cases he does another physical mem dump, not always though.

Hopefully you guys could help me out on these issues, it's really been bothering me. The BSOD is turning up a bit too often to be acceptable (live with it).

Further, in the last couple of weeks I call myself owner, the 7700 really has been an enjoyable laptop with great performance (a bit noisey though) and am still satisfied with the machine.

Anyone? I've had another BSOD, saying I've got a bda pool header. This one is actually quite common, it happens to me every once in a while... Can anyone tell me what this means.

Firstly, I have the same notebook, same config almost. :)

I am currently using XP Pro 32-bit because I found it much faster overall compared to Vista.

    1) The resolution might do that because you do not have updated/stable drivers.

    2) I connect my notebook to mainly external displays, no issues.... again drivers and Nvidia Control panel needs to be updated.

    3) D900K only supports DDR1-400. So it can only top out at 2GB (2 slots).

    4) For BSODs... make sure you HDD has no errors.
    - go to START > CMD > Type: CHKDSK C: /F
    - press Y for Yes, restart, it will scan for errors

For BSOD, Make sure your memory does not have errors (I had to swap sticks because mine had errors)
    - read this for memory test:

Thanks a lot Gophn, I really appreciate your help. But I need your or anyones help again.

Can you tell me which driver you recommend? I've seen loads of drivers on LV2GO.com. I also got my current driver from them (can't find my version anywhere).

Can you also tell me where I can update my Nvidia CP? My current version is: 1.5.700.44.

    Thanks again!

I would recommend updating to LV2G's latest 174 or 175 series (you could try both and see which works best for you)

The NVidia CP is included with the drivers

Thanks Theriko, but after half a day of experimenting, I returned to the 167.62. All 174 and 175 drivers I tried, failed, due to instabillity (non-responsive) or quite colourfull (unwanted) lines through certain windows. Even the 174.74, the driver almost everybody finds stable, failed. What about the 173 series? Anybody got experience with that?

BTW, my d900k is packed with a 7900 gtx and not a 7800 gtx (how could I be so blind).
