I wanted to try the e-sata port in the M860ETU, but the drive is not being recognized. The same drive works just fine when using USB2 option.
Do I need to activate e-sata somewhere?
Thanks!

Does anyone know?

The very same issue has been discussed at http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-hardware/3294-external-esata-hdd-not-recognized.html
Maybe you can find some answers there. -
I understand- I just wanted to make sure that this is not isolated to the initial setup of the M860TU/NP8662. I was hoping someone using this model laptop could shed light on this.

BTW, the drive is not being recognized in XP/Vista/Win7 when using esata.
That's why I asked the question here. -
What's the cable you are using to connect the drive to the e-sata port?
-
Esata. This is the cable that came with the ext hd enclosure. And a power cable that connects to the USB port.
BTW, have you used an esata external hd before? -
Yes and no. I bought one from WD last year, as my VAIO HDD was running out of capacity, but now matter what I tried, I couldn't install the eSATA PCI card (constantly getting error messages during instalation). I returned the drive and have been discouraged ever since.

Looks like I'm heading that route, too- lol.
Too bad. I guess it's wait and see at this point. -
UPDATE: The esata port works on my M860TU (but not the M860TU).
Looks like I may have to call RJTech and see if it's a motherboard issue.
The esata drive is not being detected regardless of OS in the M860ETU (it is being detected just fine with Windows 7 in M860TU).
