I just installed linux about 3 days ago on my M860ETU and I downloaded hddtemp to monitor my hdd. On idle the reading is 55c :/, which is quite hot for me.

On vista I get a 45--46 idle with 53c while gaming. These temps are taken with HWmonitor, Rivatuner and Everest Ultimate. Occasionnaly it goes up to 55c.

So unless hddtemp is giving a false reading (though I didn't find any other temp monitoring program), I think it may be a driver issue? Anyone running linux on this laptop? Do you guys have any recommendations?

Don't use Linux? Those temps are normal and as long as they are under 60*C, it is nothing to worry about.

No but I was able to brag to everyone that my hdd wasn't running in the 50s. Now I can't :( And if it idles at 55 I'm pretty sure it'll go up while downloading and gaming.. Isn't there a matrix storage thing somewhere in linux :(

But is that true, that linux makes the computer run hotter? Cuz my cpu seems hotter too (although it isn't undervolted in linux)
