First off, sorry about the grammer, i hate having to think and write >.<

If you have not heard, i got my M860TU from Eurocom on tuesday of this week. Tuesday night, i began installing vista x64 buisness edition. Which had a corrupt file in the install. I re installed vista and booted into windows. Found a dead pixel to the top left area of the screen. Not a big deal, ive learnt to live with it. I go to bed and the next day, i find i have a corrupt system file. So i reinstalled, all went well. Next while installing drivers i notice windows is running EXTREMELY slow. I am talking 10-15 seconds to right click the screen/click on start menu and for it to pop up. To run HWMonitor it took 30 + seconds to load...... YIKES. I try doing vista updates, and the update to be able to do updates, nothing works. SP1 wont even work. Screw it, i installed XP pro 32 bit, installed alrite, a little on the long side. Get into windows, still running unbearbly slow. Do driver updates, still bad, go to bed and will do windows updates today.

Today i wake up and turn on lappy, another corrupt system file. So i call Eurocom and they want me to send it to them, i would rather not considering that, seeing as i just got it, so i offer to diagnose it. I ran MHDD, within 25 minutes (under half the drive scanned) i have 365 reports of sectors being greater than 500 mS read times and 139 UNC (unrecoverable bad sectors)... This hard drive is ****ed beyon belief. (its hard to believe that they tested this laptop, a hard drive that is messed up that bad would not pass burn in/tests etc)

Also i noticed when installing drivers off of the CD, the CD rom seems to shake/rattle quite a bit? does anyone elses? is it maybe not seated properly?

So my delima is, do i express to them in the nicest means possible how upset i am at spending 2200$ for the 1.) ****ed up hard drive beyone belief 2.) dead pixel 3.) rattely cd-rom when it spins up? (I think the Cd-rom is propably good, i might just be paranoid.)

    OR

do i get them to send me a new hard drive and replace it myself? I am worried about more dead pixels occuring during shipping?

I also checked the memory with memtest86+ - no errors.
I was running stuck pixel software, which made the pixel way less noticable.

I agree with the hdd problem, but you really can't complain about a deadpixel, they don't guarantee non dead pixel screans and without buying the dead pixel warranty nothing you can do. The cd drives always seem to be a little loud, I've used the 5793 and now the 9262 and both have loud cd drives. Not sure if Eurocom offers some kind of return policy, but if you are that unhappy with it, your just going to have to return it and buy something else.
I'm also under the impression that you did not buy a OS with your laptop?

now that just sukz. sorry to hear that.
in my opinion i would send it straight back. you have got so many bad files or sectors that it needs sorting now. leaving it any longer and things can only get worse. while theve got it get them to load vista 64 and sort the dead pixel out.least they can do.

Yah, i agree with you, the pixel isn't a big worry and i knew about the risk. It just feels like everything is going wrong. I spent the last 2 nights about 8 hours a night trying to troubleshoot this laptop, thinking that vista x64 was that horrid without the SP1... lol, and nothing worked. I am a bit down and upset.

I got it without a OS, because i get OS's for free through school. However i thought that they would atleast test the hardware, including the hard drive and then just wipe it before they sent it to me.

Yah i think the cd-rom is fine, just being paranoid now....

thats what i was thinking.... that hard drive is totally utterly pooched, there is no way you could miss it if you tested. Thats what i was hoping, they could sort it all out if i complain a bit?... sigh, i dont know what to do. I could easily install the new HD if they sent one...

but could this hard drive being so bad have damage/effected anything else?

It would be pretty hard to imagine how a defective HD could damage anything unless it got really hot.

I must say though, my laptop from Eurcom has a HD that had a smudge on the label and about 1200 hours of use before it got to me according to the SMART data. I'm debating about picking up a new one and using this one as an external...

Yeah, a new HD should fix you just fine then I would think.

    But I could be wrong.

My experience with laptop sellers is a burn in is that the laptop turns on...they can say "Yes we do a full system burn in with a 200 point inspection", but if that was even remotely true systems wouldn't get shipped out like yours. I'm seriously contemplating getting one of these now, because I've recently returned back to college for some accounting courses and well, I can't even fit more than one of my books in my laptop bag with my D901c. =/ weight isn't even a issue its just that the thing is to darn big... If I do buy a m860tu, I will get it without a HDD and purchase a brand of my choice, so that I get #1 a reliable brand and #2 I can test it myself to make sure its not defective.
I honestly recommend barebone units to everyone at work, because if you have even the tinniest experience with computer hardware, getting reliable parts and having only yourself to blame if something goes wrong, really alleviates most hardware headaches.
