    Hey guys,

I am very interested in buying an M860TU to replace my 8 month old Macbook Pro.
Whilst I love it, there are a few things annoying me about it and I would like a second notebook that is faster for work and gaming.

I am planning on buying it without a processor and then purchasing a T9800 from elsewhere and installing it.
Has anyone else done this? Any tricks or are there any guides floating around?

I also want to run 8gb of ram but not sure if this is fully supported.
Is anyone running 8gb and utilising it?
I need this badly for running multiple VMware hosts.

I want to run the Samsung HM500LI 500gb drives as well.
Has anyone replaced the optical drive with a drive bay?
Anyone know if its PATA? SATA?

What about SSD compatability and experiences?

    Any comments on *nix compatability?
Has anyone had success with Backtrack?
How about ubuntu and mint compatability?
    BSD variants?

Is anyone running a 3g card internally in the turbo memory slot?

I will keep on searching on these questions but thought I would throw them all up in one spot as well.

    cheers

    Z

Running OSX on not apple computers is illegal.

With respect to your question regarding kismet and airsnort; those are wireless packet capturing and/or sniffing programs that cannot be discussed on NBR due to it's uses.

Also, running OS X on a non-Apple licensed computer is illegal; it violates the EULA for the operating system.

Really? You cant talk about packet capturing/sniffers on NBR?
These apps actually have legitimate uses as well. Hell I use them all on a weekly basis for my job.
Dont even get me started on the truly dodgy apps I use :)

I have removed the OSX question from my original post...

Running OS X on a PC is NOT illegal. It simply violates the Apple EULA, and there is intense debate about whether Apple's EULA is actually legal, or even if a EULA will hold up in court.

    Guys,

Stay on topic. If you want to talk about Apple's EULA, talk about it here and remember that hacktintosh discussion as well as other discussion related to dubious programs are against the forum rules.

I know that some network administrators use these tools to test the security of their networks, but talking about kismet or other wireless hacking programs on an online is like discussing how to break into a house in public.

I would like to disagree...but I guess I am probably an expection
I use a large amount of "hacking" tools to do my job...completely LEGALLY.
Pretty hard to be a security consultant without them :)

So back on topic...anyone running 8gb ram and addressing it all successfully?
    T9800?
    etc

As far as I'm aware, single modules of 4GB DDR3 RAM chips aren't available for laptops yet, even though I've heard that M860TU's are meant to be able to run them.

I have the Samsung M6 500GB model in my new M860TU though I'm yet to test it out. I've heard a lot of rumour that the WD Scorpio Blue is actually a better choice. Is it worth swapping them around? Darn OCUK messing up the order...

As far as the T9800 goes, not many people tend to have them as they've only just been released. There are a few other members who have tested them though. Personally, I'm waiting to get my hands on the P9600 instead! :D

KillerNotebooks has the m860tu with an option for T9800.

Also, 4GB single stick RAM was released ages ago.

OK, but what I'm saying is that there are more people on this forum who would use kismet for malicious or illegal activities. Hence, we cannot discuss it.

Well, if the lady doesn't decimate my savings around Christmas, I should have one very soon.

Maybe I missed something but I don't see any resellers selling single 4GB PC3-8500 chips yet. It would make me very happy if you could provide a link. Then maybe I could finally get some for my own M860TU. :)

Eurocom is the only place I see offering the 1x 4GB PC3-8500 sticks for the M860TU, and boy are they expensive.

There appear to be a few around, but all $550-700.
Just do a google search for something like this: 4GB PC3-8500 -kit

-kit to get rid of all the pesky 2x2gb sticks :)

Geez, those sellers must be awfully keen to keep a hold of their 4GB chips because even those with a bit of money to throw around would steer clear of those prices.

bah...4gb ddr3 prices are leading me towards the Asus G50V series

Or I might have to look at some 17" models I guess...
