Hi Guys,
I received my Clevo M860 yesterday and have just installed XP.
I have just noticed within CPU-Z and GPU-z that my 9800gts is running at 1x instead of 16x!
Can anyone else confirm theirs is running at PCI-E 16x?
Also does anybody know of a fix? There is no options in BIOS and no new BIOS's available.
Spec:
P8600 cpu
9800gts
2gb Ram
250gb HD
XP Pro
177.92 nvidia drivers
Thanks in advance for any info or help

Maybe the GPU downclocks somehow...
Maybe you don't have the proper GPU drivers installed?
Just download 3dMark2006 and run a test. If you have above 9000, you have nothing to worry about.
Did you get your M860TU from Kobalt?
How are you enjoying the laptop so far? -
You have a 9800 GTS instead of a 9800M GT?Hmmmmm......
I am not really sure of the difference or if there actually is one, but are they doing away with the M GT's for the GTS's...strange...
I have read somewhere that the GTS's are a little weaker than the M GT's but I could be wrong.
Sorry I know it's off topic but I am sort of curious??? -
Ahhh... It's a 9800M GTS!!!
-
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the responses. I get 9100 in 3dmark06 1280x1024 with XP and 177.92
this seems normal by what you guys are getting with the GT but I can understand the 1x!!!
Milcs - I got mine from OCUK, loving it so far, my GPU hasnt been over 62c yet!
HD runs at 49 idle and 55-57 load. -
It's fine then... Don't worry about that.
Maybe it's just a glitch with CPUz or something like that.
Download Rivatuner and track GPU's clocks and temperature. All seems to point out to the fact that your laptop is working fine.
Quite amazing performance for the GTS as well... Quite cool laptop you got.
How much did you pay? -
Just installed vista and it now shows as 16x therefore it must be XP mis-reporting it.
It was £910 delivered and considering the performance isnt far off the GT I am more than pleased. -
That's an amazing price and, no doubt, the GTS vs GT difference is marginal and doesn't justify a difference in prices.
Great acquisition and glad you sorted your "PCI problem"!
Hope you will have lots of fun with it.
ps: Is the laptop completely debranded, or do you have any OCUK logos? -
The laptop is completely unbranded, which suits me
It also came with two years warranty which helped sway me. -
Use Everest Ultimate to determine that. It shows my GTX running at 16x.
-
Very interesting!
Do you know if they will ship even in Europe?
EDIT: Uh yes...they do. with parcelforce...
By the way.....how did you manage to pay such a cheap price? I cannot go under 1000 £ w/o shipping...
Tks -
I ordered it on pre-order and it was £30 cheaper plus as a regular customer I had a 10% off voucher.

Hello
What's your 3Dmark06 score in Vista, and specifically, what are the SM 2.0/3.0 scores? -
Just running it as we speak, will post back in a sec
-
OK, Vista 32bit business, forceware drivers: 174.90
Score 8831
SM2 4113
SM3 3829
CPU 2173
How does that compare with your GT? as our specs are identical except for the gfx -
maybe try 177.92? Make sure you do the tweaked .dll thing. I think most are using it...
-
@ tingc222 - I only tried vista to compare scores with XP and solve my PCI-E problem. I see you are on XP, can you check CPUz or GPUz to see what speed your PCI-E is running at?
-
Score 9235
SM2 4323
SM3 4108
CPU 2173
Pretty close. -
Mine show up as x1 as well ninja, but I’m using winxp which may be the cause. I can’t imagine this card giving me anymore or better performance than it does now.
@emike
Even using Everest Ultimate it gives me the @1 when @16 is available, so maybe a clitch in the operating system. I’m also running in IDE mode instead of SATA (ACHI), but do not think that has a direct calculation with what is going on with the PCI-E. -
.
-
@ kobe - Yes, it must be just misreporting because I got over 9000 3dmark06 in XP.
@ Kevin and ioniro, I will DL the 177.92 and re-run 3dmark today so we can have like for like scores. It might also be intereting to benchmark some games to see the difference.
I have world in conflict, Supcomm, Forged alliance and company of heroes I could bench. Unfortunately I have no fps's -
Lol, maybe this is the reason why Clevo said the card was buggy and not ready to be place in the m860tu.

Neil@Kobalt Company Representative
You have a P8600 as well which will bring the 3DMark06 scores down a little (a good few hundred compared to a T9400/P9500).
Did Clevo say the GTS cards were buggy, it's them that are putting the cards in the chassis? -
Hi Neil,
I have no problem with my scores, its so close to the Gt I am very happy with the purchase, if you compare mine against somebody with identicle specs except a GT they get about 300-400 more points. My only issue was the PCI-E at 1x under XP, but as the performance was still good it was obviously just mis-reading it.
Also Just ran 3dmark06 with 177.92 and got neigh on identicle scores. -
ninja, are you scoring over 9k in 3dmark06 at default (1280x1024)?
-
Kobe, I score just over 9100 in XP 3dmark06 @ 1280x1024, in vista 32bit I score just over 8800
-
-
Let's stick to 1680x1050, all high, no AA. A lot of people have been looking forward to these cards being compared on identical systems, so I want to be thorough. Once we're done, I'll compile all of the data into a separate comparison topic. If you want, you can pm your data to me. Also, screenshots would be nice. -
sounds good.
I will DL devil may cry and install WIC and COH then. can you make sure they are fully patched so that we are running as even as possible?
I will post the data tomorrow as I am out tonight. -
OK ninja, its not a XP thing. I was just playing around with a few overclocking tools, but thought better of it. But when I disabled PowerMizer, I noticed my GPU temp shot up to 50c from 45c, wth!? I then looked at GPU-Z and sure enough, my PCI-E was @16. So dont worry about it, it shoots up to 16 when the system needs it. Ill keep PowerMizer enabled, as it seems to work very well. Just to be sure, try it yourself?
-
cool thanks kobe, I will check that out.
OK I have done the WIC and forged alliance benchmark. just patching up COH OF then I will run that too -
Any updates on the benchmark results? I'm tempted to go with a GTS if they come out anytime soon and if the performance hit is not too great.
M860TU 9800gts running at pci-e 1x!!!
