Hi there.
My M860TU arrived at my house on xmas eve. The first game I installed on it was Call of Duty World at war which installed and ran perfectly with no problems.
The next day (xmas day) I received 2 games and a DVD as presents. Call od Duty 4, GTR 2 and Top Gear interactive DVD. None of thes could be read on my brand new M860TU, yet they could be read no problem on both my desktop and my brother's inspiron laptop. You can hear the drive speed up, then slow down almost immediately and then make the usually clicking sounds. This repeats until you remove the DVD from the drive. If I even right-click on the drive while the laptop is attempting to read the disk I get that vista circle and the window freezes until I remove the disk. Same happens in safe mode.
This cause me to investigate furthur and I tried a lot of other games and movies in the drive, all of which working fine! It makes the same clicking sounds for the working DVDs too but after about 10 seconds the disk starting spinning consistantly and it worked fine). I can make a video of me trying and working dvd (ex. cod5) and a not working dvd (ex. cod4) if that would help identify the problem by hearing the noises in question.
Anyone have any ideas? Could it sill be a problem with the DVD drive even though the other stuff works fine? It's pretty strange.
I spoke to a friend of mine and he reckoned that it could be outdated firmware. I know close to nothing about firmware though but the optical drive's model number is "tsstcorp TS-L633A" if thats any help.
I have contacted the company I bought the laptop off but they havent replied yet. Possibly still on holidays.
Advanced Thanks and Happy Xmas.![]()

yes, I would also recommend a firmware update.
if it does not work, get a replacement optical drive. -
I had the same problem with my M570TU and Red Alert 3, and got a replacement drive free of charge from the reseller. My best guess is that it's a problem with the copy protection mechanism of certain games. Now all I need to do is open this baby and change the thing...

Eh... That happened to me for Red Alert 3 before but I simply ejected, removed the disc and put it back in properly and close the tray
It works that way and now the problem's gone like it never happened before :/ Weird stuff

Thanks for the replies. Knew I could rely on here for some info.
Has anyone any idea where I can get updated firmware for that drive? I emailed samsung (I think it's a samsung drive) and also my supplier about it but neither of them have emailed me back.
I got the tool off the samsung site to check what firmware version I have it I've attached the result. However when I try their liveupdate system it says that my drive is not compatible with it and I can't see where to download it manually. I've been advised not to trust firmware from any other source either.
Thanks again.Attached Files:
