    Hi,

here are my overclocking results for the 9800M GTS. In the forum are many threads about the 9800M GT, but no for the GTS. In Far Cry 2 are the temperatures +10°C.

    My System:

    Clevo M860TU / T9400@2,53GHz / 3GB DDR3 / Geforce 9800M GTS

    3DMark06:

    9116 Points (600/800/1500) 73°C (ORIG)
    9406 Points (600/900/1600) 77°C (MOD)
    9723 Points (650/900/1700) 78°C (MOD1)
    9976 Points (700/950/1700) 80°C (MOD2)

The modified bios files for your own flashing are here ... all at your own risk !!!

that's a pretty hefty OC. hope you're watching your temps :)

still, very good results. +800 points in 3dmark is pretty sweet.

    I can get 700/1000/1800 on a 9700M GTS, and my temps don't go above 70 degrees C.

anyway, what are your sm 2.0, 3.0 and cpu scores?

    Here's mine:

    3DMark Score: 8426 3DMarks
    SM 2.0 Score: 3989
    SM 3.0 Score: 3945
    CPU Score: 1819

As well, according to your signature, that's your "super oc", and judging by the fact that you also have a "stable oc" there, I'm assuming that 700/1000/1800 isn't stable, and hence, is worthless.

Still good OCs, both on the 9800 and 9700.

That sounds like a pretty good OC.

I'm wondering if I should try it out.

    safe temps are below 80ish?

I've never done a flash OC before... but right now my vid cards and cpu at stock are not over 55 under load so i'm thinking... there's plenty of room to experiment.

@Aryantes They are talking about 9800M GTS not GT!

@Hitman the default voltage was originally 1.11v??

Right, I'm running the 8800m GTX though, but these cards are similar enough to accommodate the same temperatures right?

Pretty sure the procedure is the same.

The GTS can be overclocked without flashing, that's what the Gateway owners tell me, anyway. Try using nTune or rivatuner.

Can someone give me the original 9800M GTS BIOS please? I was given a 9800M GTS and I want to reflash it with an original BIOS.

How do I check the current active voltage being used on my 9800m GTS?
I've been modding my GTS with Nibitor, but since it's still not supported I'm not sure if it's working the way I want.

    Here's how I tweaked my 9800m GTS:

I dumped my 9800m GTS bios using GPU-Z, loaded it into Nibitor (4.8), selected "geforce 8 series" and changed the "Device ID" from "0628" to "0609" (hit Rescan BIOS) to get the proper clockrates.

The thing I'm interested in is lowering the temperate of my system (and still get nice 3dmark06 results), so what I did was change the "Extra" voltage from 1.11V to 0.9V using the tab "Voltages".

(From what I've read "Extra" is the only setting used with the GTS, but I could be wrong.)

After setting the 0.9V I changed the "0609" back to "0628" (Adv. Info tab) and saved the BIOS.

Then I flashed the tweaked BIOS using NvFlash (on a USB-Stick).

Skillz: i am interested to know how much this GPU undervolt reduced temperatures of your GPU and if it was stable in games.

I am running a stable WOW and that's basicly the only game I play now.
But I'd like to be really sure what voltage is being used, so if you can recommend some software please let me know.

    I'll try hardwaremonitor tonight

Ok, I've used the GPU-Z sensors tab to record the GPU temps for over 1.5 hrs of WoW play. The MAX temp recorded in that 1.5 hrs is 62 degrees (C).

The Video settings in WoW are 1680x1050, 2xAA 24bit color, 24bit depth.

Also, I'm using Dox tweaked Forceware 181.22 drivers in Windows XP, which give a 3DMark06 score of 9299. (I haven't changed any clock settings on my card)

I also applied Artic Silver 5 on my GPU and CPU.

I've also undervolted my CPU in order to get my laptop as cool as possible.
And I'm not using any external cooling solutions.

I got 9826 3DMark06 using Mod1, with GPU temps <70C according to Nvidia System Monitor. I'll see if it's stable through a few hours of sustained gaming next, but early indications are very good. I prefer a moderate OC with long-run stability for gaming rather than pushing it to the max, so I think I'll stick with mod1.

How did you make these ROMs without Nibitor support for the 9800M GTS?

Note also that nvflash has a bug, and spuriously reports a PCI subsystem ID mismatch when there isn't one. Use nvflash -6 to flash.

    Nice work!

Not that it should matter, but I also flashed MB BIOS to 1.01.13 and EC firmware to 1.00.10 from here. nvflash 5.72 from here. XP SP3 32bit, with this and this fixed. Used to have BSODs in AHCI mode until I upgraded iastor.sys to the latest from here.

SetFSB does work on the M860TU, but not on the X9100 or T9800. I also don't know if it works for any of the other new processors that just came out.

    Before I overclocked my 9800 I could get my 2.4 P8600 to 2.58 something.

I have the same processor as the one posted his 3dmark result, and thats the exact FSB OC I had.

You cant choose your FSB with the P9500 (or the rest of the montevina processors). Its stock or a 200mhz OC or something in that area.

    EDIT: 100 posts btw :p

    Hey,

so, in terms of being able to OC, is the GTS equivalent to the GT?

So, if I want to OC, I can flash the GPU BIOS, which directly affects the clockrates of the GPU core/memory.

However, if i want to OC my processor, I can only do this using setFSB (P8600 sotck @ 2,4)?? Which means i probably have to have setFSB running in the background? Also, what programs do you use to monitor heat?

If I use setFSB, it overclocks the entire board, meaning motherboard, processor, and GPU?? Thanks folks :D

Just use Nvidia system tools. If you want to overclock it more, you have to raise the voltage by flashing. The answers are in this forum, just search for it.

Is 950MHz to high of an overclock for the memory of the 9800M GTS? Because when I set it to 950MHz, it randomly produces "hang ups" during the welcome screen of Windows Vista and Windows 7.

    Welcome to the forum :)

I`m not familiar with w7/ntune regarding issues, but what driverversion are you using and how much did you increase the clocks?
