The work I do requires me to have at least three 24 inch monitors - That being said if I were to purchase a 52 inch Samsung Plasma, would I be able to not only use the Samsung but also the actual 15.4 inch screen the M860TU comes with?

Or if the 52 inch Samsung Plasma will not be compatible, what is another way to hook up 2-3 monitors?

    Thanks,

    Pwn

Hooking up to a plasma shouldn't be difficult and you can use both the laptop display and the plasma simultaneously. This is most often done through HDMI. I have hooked into a 46" without a issue and used both displays.

If you ever want to expand into dual or triple monitors it would be best to use either a Matrox Triple or DualHead2Go adapter. Link here. I personally use the Dual Head2Go Digital and it produces a 3360x1050 resolution I spread across two Samsung 24" LCD's and use simultaneously with my laptop display.

That is good to know, thank you. How would you say the TV ( Samsung 46 inch Plasma ) compares to lets say the monitors you have with the DualHead2Go adapter?

In my opinion I think it displays a little better going directly from the laptop into a display rather then through the Matrox. (not that big of difference in quality) I enjoy having the extra space available by going through the Matrox adapter.

    Happy Holidays! :)

Thank you. I was actually wondering which of the 2 options would provide me with a better quality display. Two 24 inch monitors or one big 46 inch plasma using the HDMI cord. Also if you recommend two 24 inch monitors as opposed to the 46-52 inch plasma, how would you hook them up? Through the DualHead2Go? I was under the impression that I would need dual graphics cards in order to run more then one screen...

    Thank you for your time,

    Pwn

There is little quality difference between the two. It comes down to your personal preference. If you want more desktop real estate (more space on your external displays) you would want to go with the Matrox. (A 1080P Plasma will give you a resolution of 1920x1200 where the Matrox DualHead2Go Digital can provide up to a 3840x1200 resolution you can spread across 2 WUXGA external LCD Displays or 3360x1050 if you went with WSXGA+ external displays) Dual Graphics cards are not needed for this, the Matrox powers the displays.

The Matrox Digital has two DVI Input Ports for you to plug your displays into and then a line that runs from the Matrox to your VGA/DVI out on your laptop.

If you want to maximize your desktop real estate get two WUXGA External Displays. Link Here

Based on your comment I have decided to go with the DualHead2Go. I just have one more quick question - If I decide not to go with the DualHead2Go and would like to hook up two 24 inch screens via just my laptop ( M860TU ) the display quality would be better but it would take up more space and I would need dual graphics cards, correct?

Sorry I just want to make sure I understand this

Nearly every laptop on the market (even dual video cards) can only support one external display. So you can only plug in (1) external monitor. To use more then one external display you will have to use the Matrox Adapter. By using more then one display with the Matrox you can more space for your applications. (more desktop real estate)

Just a quick question on a similar line, would i be able to run a 19" monitor and a 22" monitor as well as the on board 15.4" screen on my M860tu using both the HDMI and DVI ports? So i use a HDMI --> DVI converter cable on the HDMI port.

    Thanks

No. The gfx card can run a max of 2 screens, either internal flat panel + 1 external, or 2 external but not the internal flat panel.

hrrrm tried hooking my computer up to a 19" monitor and 32" TV, using DVI for the monitor and HDMI for the TV but it would only run the monitor and the internal, or tv and the internal not both external how can i get it to run both the externals? Or can it not run HDMI and DVI at the same time?

    Thanks
    DK

I'm not 100% sure the M86xTU can run 2 external screens actually, I know the D900C could, which graphics drivers are you using?
