Sorry, have a quick question as I'm somewhat confused. Does the Clevo M860TU use MXM Type 3.0b cards? Same as the M570TU?
What is the difference between MXM 2.1 Type 3, MXM 3.0 Type 3, and MXM Type 3.0b?
Seriously confused..
-
-
M86 and M57 use both MXM 2.1 Type 3, not 3.0.
-
2.1 if i remeber correctly
-
Okay..
so does Type 3.0b = MXM 2.1 type 3
or
Type 3.0b = MXM 3.0 type 3? -
huh? they are all different

MXM 2.1. Four different sizes. Type I, II, III, IV.
MXM 3.0 Two different sizes. A, and b. -
So where can I purchase an nVidia GTX 280m MXM 2.1 Type 3?
Eurocom upgrades list says they only have nVidia GTX 280m MXM Type 3.0b -

Ask them if they have the card.
-
Rjtech has them for $490.

Shipping to Europe is going to be a b*tch though.
-
Eurocom is overcharging, so go with RJ Tech.

).
-
Not an option.. Tax bills from US to UK are big..

Find out from which reseller will it cost the least after shipping and taxes. Or you can have one of us buy it for you and ship it to you as a gift.

If you need help ....
(i have no use as it doesn't fit my laptop
)

If he goes through me, then all he would have to pay is the price of the card, CA sales tax, shipping from RJTech to me, and shipping from me to him. All that would still be far less than purchasing from another vendor.
-
Do you have one right now?
Yes, I may take you up on that. Haven't purchased the laptop, probably will in a months time, after I have all the funding. If that appears to be the cheapest option, I'l definitely get back to you on it ASAP.. If your willing to do it
-
no i don't have one i was just offering

PM me when you are ready to buy it. I always ship high price items out the country by USPS Registered Priority, which is about $20 in a flat rate box, so you don't have to worry about USPS losing it.
-
Isn't there a limit to how much a gift can be worth before it is taxed when sent outside the US?
-
In the UK? £6.99, then they add a customs charge (£8) and make you pay VAT. So unless you can convince them to make one helluva discount you're out of luck.
You can try to ask them to charge VAT in advance so you won't have to pay that £8 charge.
I find asking them to send it as a gift rarely works. Cheap a*s Gov't.
However if it does, you may have another potential buyer here. Buying a 280m over there costs the same as a 260m over here.
Soviet Sunrise - Not to sound too much like a stalker but I thought you were an European citizen? -
Could you not just.. put it in some bubble wrap and send it in an envelope like a normal letter?
-
Actually, yes its not sensitive for drops ETC because of no moving parts ... you REALLY would have to crush it ....
-
hmm :S I'll see if I can find any alternatives. Will post them if I find any.

Usually what I do is declare the GPU as broken as send it as a gift worth under $10. USPS will never lose or damage registered mail, so it would be safe to send it like that.
-
But potentially illegal?
-
Had a surprise email today which confirmed it would be a lot cheaper to buy both the 260M and the 280M from them rather than either infrolandia or importing from RJTech.
MatthewRuddy, try getting contact with Neil from Kobalt.
-
I also have been in contact with RJTech about getting a 260M for my M860TU. I was surprised during my emails with RJTech when it was stated that the 260M card that they can supply only fits the M860ETU. Doesn't the M860ETU motherboard have the same type of MXM connector (2.1 type3) as the M860TU? I suspect that RJTech is slightly misinformed. I would really like to hear from someone who can clarify.
-
Its not that they were misinformed, its just out of a business standpoint for them to tell you it won't fit any other laptops (M860TU) when it never came with to begin with. They don't want to be held responsible if some thing were to go wrong. If you know it would work for your M860TU (and we all know it does with the bios update) just tell them you are buying it for the M860ETU.

Yes, you are correct. RJTech is misinformed on this one. All M860TU's can accept the GTX 260M. All that is required is a BIOS update, and perhaps a new heatsink.
