I know laptop speakers aren't the greatest thing in the world, but mine's volume at max just don't seem to be as loud as they should..

Am I doing something wrong or are they all this way?

    Install the driver?

This is subjective, but mine is loud enough for me.

chenDawg. When you are testing the sound on your notebook, how big is the room and is it hardwood or carpeted?

    I've installed all my drivers.

The rooms are usually mid-sized (if not, big-ish) with carpet.

My room is huge and the speaker is fine, louder then any other laptop i've used. Try to obtain the newest driver from realtek.com.tw

Try using the 'powerful' preset of the equalizer in the realtek audio manager.
