OK i was gona install the Windows 7 beta since its seems like way better than vista so i first started with partitioning my hard drive right
so according to the installation guide i'm suppose to under disk management do SHRINK VOLUME but in that it always say the Size available for Shrink is 0 MB and i have done few defrags and cleared all my system restore points but still it says I have 0 MB available for Shrink Volume.
Is there anything i can't do beside system recovery but i don't wanna do that
PS: I have about 320GB HDD and 250GB free Space in my harddrive
Thanks guys

If you are unable to shrink the volume you can try some of the Partition software on the market (i.e. Partition Magic) that will allow you to make a 2nd partition with your unused space.
I also did the same thing this weekend and installed Windows 7 on a 2nd Partition and dual booting Ultimate 64 & Windows 7. -
or get a defrag program like raxco perfectdisk (great software) that has an option "consolidate free space" and run a defrag at boot time as well, so it can move system/page files. I had the same problem at first, then after running PD, I could shrink by 70GB of 80 free...

thanks for the replies Justin & thericko i'll give both of them a try

unfortunately raxco PD is not compatible with Win7
However there is a new version that should hopefully be going RTM in the next few weeks
-
actually i used it in vista and it freed up 85gb space and i was able to partition the hdd
-
same here, I was just comiserating that it didn't yet work in Win7
-
ok windows 7 is successfully installed and working perfectly but the thing is that i can't access any of my software docs and other stuff in my original C: partition so, is there are setup or will i just won't see that part of the HDD at all

Is your Windows 7 Partition also labeled as "C"?
-
NO it is labeled G: actually is that the problem

That should not be the problem, Do you have Vista 64 on your other partition? What version of Windows 7 are you using?
-
yes i have my vista on the C: partition and on G: was the Windows 7 64bit Ultimate
-
when booted into win7, right click on manage, then select disk management. right click on the section of the drive without a label, and give a new label. This is a known problem.
