I finally got my m860tu laptop back from service from Eurocom the friday before last. So far everything has been running good except that one of the keyboard tabs will not work properly.
The middle left keyboard tab, about the f6 key will not hold the keyboard in place. I have to push the keyboard down using a thoothpick every couple days because the tab lets go and the keyboard pops up in that one area.
All weekend it didnt happen once, today i was carrying it around in my notebook bag, took it out and the keyboard where that tab is located is poped up. I simply can not push it back down either, because the tab does not come out unless i apply pressure with a fine object like a toothpick to the edge of the keyboard (i think the spring pushing the tab out is bad).
My question is, is that tab build into the frame, or does that black shiny bezel around the keyboard come off. I have not contacted Eurocom as of yet, because i do not want to have to send it back there for another 2 weeks. I have finally just got it back and everything else is wonderful. However if the black shiny bezel does come out, then i could just ask for a replacement, because i believe this problem is related to the tab and not the keyboard itself.
If anyone has had this happen, has any ideas or knows please help me out! Thank-you!
The bezel i am talking about is circled in red:

I haven't found any way of taking it off (nor the keyboard, mine's firmly stuck, but I haven't tried much). Someone posted a removal diagram in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=307078

imo it sounds like something under the keyboard is not laying flat. try to take the keyboard up and check everything if i remeber right there are a few cables under that areas that may not be positioned right

Well, this happened to me today, and the center top of my keyboard won't stay popped back down. It happened while I was browsing the web, the machine isn't hot, I wasn't typing - the keyboard just flexed upwards. Hrm :/
-
Same thing is happening for me with my Eurocom laptop. It's the one above the F10/F11 key.
-
The ones above f5/f6 and f10/f11 did it to me, and popped back up a few times. It only happened after I was running in silent mode all day; odd. Staying down now after I used a toothpick to find the tabs and place the keyboard under them, but meh

I gave Eurcom a call yesterday. They will take it back and replace the top cover of the laptop. However i don't want to wait 2 weeks again, especially since i am using this laptop heavily for school atm. I might just live with it for now/try to fix myself possibly.
p.s Unfortunatly the black bezel does not come out. The problem i belive is a spring. This could easily be fixed by replacing a tiny spring/stretching the current 1.... -
This happened to me too except mine was above the F1 key. My M860TU was shipped that way to my surprise. I popped it back in and was good for a couple of days then it was loose again.
Contacted XoticPC and asked them if it was part of the bezel or the chassis but they didn't know and told me to contact Sager. Sager said it was part of the chassis. At least I have it documented with XoticPC that I called about the problem.
Been a month now without any problems until today. Trying to decide if I should live with it or send it back for repair. The problem with mine is that the spring on the tab above my F1 key is not "springy"... it's just loose. -
have not decided what i am going to do yet, does anyone have a manual for dissasembly? if its simple to take off the top cover it is a easy fix. -
I just took my keyboard out to see what you're talking about.
Those tabs are a pain to put back in place, just pressing the keyboard isn't sufficient, I needed to move the small plastic base of the keyboard down a bit with a thin screw driver to make the tabs pop out - WHILE pressing pretty hard on the keyboard - to hold it down.
Are you sure you're getting the tab to pop out all the way?
I couldn't figure out a way to get the shine border off either. It looks like it's a distinct part, just would have to get something thin enough to fit in there and wedge it out - and risk breaking it or something else which would suck.
What sucks is that if it is that spring, its such an easy fix it's just such a pain in the *** to get to because you'd have to take the whole thing apart. The manual says nothing about taking it apart. -

web.eurocom.com/EC/data/m196_2.pdf
ever hear of google?
It seems to take forever to open it though, so I haven't looked at it. figured I'd post it while you were still on the board. -
yah, google is L337hmm, thinking about doing this myself, gunna call eurocom and see if they will send me a new top/see if im voiding warranty if i do it ....
-
i just finished talking to Eurocom. They told me there is no way possible for me to fix this on my own, without voiding my warranty. They have no problem if i send it in. However atm i can't give up my laptop atm, i need it for school. They told me that i can call them back when its a good time for me to be without it and then they will fix it. So i am just going to live with it for the next couple of months.

How much does it cost to ship it back?
