Greetings fellow Clevoists. Have a minor issue regarding the little graphic that is briefly displayed in the top-left of the screen when you change brightness, enable/disable touchpad etc... Well its disappeared, the functions still work perfectly, but I really miss the little graphics

It would make my life complete and bring me eternal joy and happiness if there was a way to bring it back :)

If you go start > type msconfig, hit enter > startup, is the process still enabled at boot? As you noticed, the functions still work without it, you just lose the graphics and (I think) the taskbar icon.

right, I'm going to appear as a bit of an idiot here, but which process am I looking for ? Can't see anything obvious listed.

Don't think I've ever see a taskbar icon for this.

I'm not sure if it's the same process in the M860TU, but in the newer models it's listed as hotkey.exe. If nothing in msconfig is unchecked, then it hasn't been disabled anyway. Try reinstalling your hotkey drivers if that doesn't help.

yes it's Hotkey in Startup tab of msconfig.

A related question here: how can I disable the taskbar icon (not hiding it but disable it) while still has it running on background?

Ah ok, yes there is a taskbar icon - hotkey ver M2.0408 (doesn't do much), and is included in startup. I'll try to re-install the drivers and see what happens.

i think the hotkey driver is only for the 3 buttons shortcuts at the top but i could be wrong.
have you updated the bios or reinstaled the operating system lately?
mine sometimes works and sometimes doesnt even though ive never updated anything.

Keep us posted, 'cause I wanna get rid of those. Maybe it'll stop apps from minimizing when I change the volume in them.

On my M860ETU, the service for this is "PowerBiosServer", I believe.

Hey Mr DJ thats what I got too, seemed pretty random. Just been mucking around swapping hard drives and the graphics have returned - hurrah!

The PowerBiosServer service is currently running. I'll keep an eye out for it, the next time the images go awol.
