How frustrating is the power supply for the M860TU. If I move a few inches the thing pops out from the back. This computer is great other than this. Has anyone found a way to keep this in firmly.

    o_O Mine never pops out.

Maybe yours has too much tension? Make sure you have at least a bit of slack in your power cable...

I try to give it slack. The problem it falls out with the least bit of tension or movement. So if the laptop is in my lap and need to get up it falls out.

I've seen a number of other threads/posts with that problem; a bit of a search might locate them. I believe in some instances, owners were able to get the power supplies swapped out after discussion with their reseller.

Happens to me few times, it gets off when I move the computer while leaving it connected. It may be some sort of poor safety feature, like a cheap Magsafe :p

If it gives you alot of trouble get the industrial velcro. Attach 1 half of the velcro beside the plug input and then you can wrap the other half of the velcro around the cable when it's in and stick the 2 together and voila. It'll be alot more difficult to disconnect. Although it will look a bit ghetto unless you cut it cleanly. Even still a bit ghetto.

I never had the problem of it popping out. But then again, I don't have the cable under any stretching pressure and I actually have it a little slack coming to the connecting of the laptop.

Maybe the cable is stretching too much?

I had the same problem with the laptop I had for a few days. It would pop out almost every time I moved it. Returned the laptop for other reasons, but I did think it was a major flaw in design.

I think I've read before that there was a batch of defective plugs, which you could have gotten replaced at no cost.

When I sent my M860TU in for repair, it came back with a new power supply, and the connector fit tightly. I can only assume that I was given one of the revised plugs.

I can't say I've ever had a problem with mine popping out, or even coming close to popping out. It does take a bit of force to pull the connector out to be honest. This is a power supply purchased from Overclockers UK in November 2008.

Also, does anybody hear a faint crackle from the Power Supply Unit (Big Black Box :p), when they put it to their ear? Is that normal?

I have the same issue; I asked Eurocom about it and they said I could send it in to have the jack on the laptop redone, but they weren't sure if it would help. Does anyone know if this is an issue with the laptop jack or the AC adapter jack?

I think you could assume the laptop power port is the problem if they need you to send the unit in. If it was opposite a simple cable replacement would do the job.

The response from their tech support seemed to suggest that they hadn't the foggiest about the issue, so I was hoping someone here might be more knowledgeable.

well good to know i'm not the only one. I suspect this was fixed at some point cause I can't see people would not have this issue. Its not like I'm stretching the thing out. I'm curious does not new plug still connect at an angle but is tighter or goes straight in?

I happened to have the Targus powersupply hanging around so I was testing out various tips to see if they fit tightly in the jack. The S3 tip seems to fit fine, I haven't tried using it for power, but it fit a lot better than the regular tip.

Examining the tips, the metal clips in the M860TU's jack don't appear to be as far forward. At the same angle, you wouldn't be able to see the silver inside the jack with the original tip. With the S3, the clips appear to apply tension to the middle rod in the laptop side of the jack, making it stay very solidly.

Could those of you who have the M860TU, with and without the connector problem, compare your tips to see whether this is a problem with the adaptor or the laptop?

    @JagerQ,
I have this same tip. I just recently tried to charge battery on laptop using the Targus 90W (APM12US). Unfortunately for me, it did not work. (no charging light indicated on laptop and the blue power light on the power brick actually went off!).

That happened to me with the Targus supply at times with my last laptop. I'm not sure if that's a problem with the Targus or the laptop. Taking the Targus supply cables apart and putting everything back together seemed to fix it.

The tip supposedly puts out 19.3 V, instead of the 20V that the OEM is putting out, and the polarity appears to be the same. I think the 90Ws is the problem as the M860TU power supply is 120W.

When were laptops made? maybe they had bad power connectors during the time your laptops were made.

Yeah, that could be; do you think you could take a picture of your laptop power connectors so we can compare with ours?

My power supply was made in August 2008, laptop was in the first batch out from Eurocom.

It could just be a handful of power supply or laptop jack problems. Pictures might help...
